Evan Bates and Madison Chock, Olympic gold medalists, are not only the perfect pair on the ice but also off. They first teamed up during the 2011-2012 figure skating season and began dating in 2017.

"We just really fell in love on the ice and grew closer together," Bates exclusively told We in February 2018. He mentioned that he had a crush on Chock when they were teens and added, "I love her personality. I love her zest for life."

Bates and Chock have continued to pursue their Olympic dreams, which has had an impact on their romance.

"We lead pretty quiet lives when we're training," he shared with Us. "We spend a lot of time at home and we like to go to bed early!"

After being together for five years, Bates popped the question in June 2022 while they were on vacation in Thailand. As they get ready for their wedding in 2024, they continue to compete in skating together.

"We are still passionate about our work and we find joy in the journey," Chock excitedly shared with Olympics.com in 2023. "It takes dedication and consistency to put in the effort every day for years, so it's important to love what you do. We have always been committed to the process and that feeling remains strong."

January 2024

They won their first Grand Prix Final title in December 2023, one month before officially becoming Olympic gold medalists.

Team USA initially finished in second place behind the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in the team figure skating event. However, after a thorough investigation, ROC's star athlete Kamila Valieva was disqualified for doping. This decision resulted in Team USA being awarded the gold medal instead.

During an interview on the Today show with Bates and their teammates, Chock expressed her surprise at the turn of events. She mentioned how they were unsure about the situation and how people constantly asked them for more information. The news of Valieva's disqualification brought a sense of relief to Chock and the team, as they finally felt a weight lifted off their shoulders from the Beijing games.
