Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2!
Summary
The choice to have Mickey work from an office instead of his car in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 was primarily driven by cinematic considerations and the desire to introduce a wider range of settings for scenes involving other characters.
While there is a possibility of Mickey reverting to working in his car in season 3, the office setup served as a creative approach to adapting the books into a television series.
In season 3, if Mickey resumes working out of his car, a new driver may be required as Izzy, his previous driver, intends to open her own dance studio. Showrunner Ted Humphrey has provided an explanation for Mickey Haller's (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) shift away from working out of his car in season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer. In the first season, Mickey frequently operated from the back of his car while being chauffeured by Izzy Letts (Jazz Raycole). However, in season 2, Mickey primarily focused on defending Lisa Trammell from his office.
Speaking with TV Insider, Humphrey explained why The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 opted for Mickey to work in his office instead of his car. He stated that this decision was made for "cinematic" reasons but did not dismiss the possibility of Mickey returning to work in his car if there is a third season of The Lincoln Lawyer. Humphrey highlighted the need for a physical location to film scenes and expressed that filming inside the car could become claustrophobic over time. Additionally, having an office provides a setting for scenes involving other characters, as constant phone calls can limit the variety of interactions. Humphrey views the office as a creative solution that tackles the challenge of adapting the books into a television show.
Where Could Mickey Work In Lincoln Lawyer Season 3?
: The possibility of him being in a different office space or having no office space in future seasons is a question. Additionally, the idea of Lorna having a small office while he spends most of his time in the car is also on the table. The future options for his workplace setting remain wide open. The conclusion of season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer suggests that Mickey will not have a driver available in the foreseeable future. Izzy, his current driver, intends to establish a dance studio and gradually reduce her involvement with Mickey's law firm as she focuses on launching her own business. Consequently, if Mickey decides to continue operating out of his car, it may be necessary for the series to introduce a new driver who can transport him to various locations.
Season 2, episode 10 has already established a captivating case that Mickey may have to tackle while traveling around. This is because The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is going to adapt Michael Connelly's fifth book, The Gods of Guilt, which revolves around Mickey's quest to uncover the murderer of his former client, Gloria Dayton.
At the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, the series foreshadowed the adaptation of The Gods of Guilt by introducing Julian La Cosse, Mickey's new client, who claims innocence in Gloria's death. Due to the potential intricacy of the case, Mickey might find himself operating out of his Lincoln once again in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether Izzy will continue as Mickey's driver or if a new character will take on that role.
