The Lincoln Lawyer has the potential to continue beyond season 4. The legal drama series, which debuted on Netflix in 2022, features Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller, who operates from his Lincoln Navigator. It is based on the book series by Michael Connelly, starting with 2005's The Lincoln Lawyer, which introduces Haller as the half-brother of Connelly's well-known character Harry Bosch (recently featured in the seven-season Prime Video series Bosch, beginning in 2014).
TV Insider recently interviewed co-creator Ted Humphrey about the season 2 finale of The Lincoln Lawyer, which premiered on Netflix on August 3. In the discussion, he mentioned that they have planned for four seasons so far. Although season 3 has not yet been officially confirmed, Humphrey also hinted at further plans if the show continues beyond season 4.
We currently have our plans laid out for four seasons, and if we are fortunate enough to continue the show, we have even more plans beyond that. Specifically, we have the next two seasons meticulously mapped out, in the hopes that we will have the opportunity to bring them to life. Furthermore, we are well aware of the books that will serve as the foundation for these upcoming seasons.
The Lincoln Lawyer Has Plenty Of Story To Work With
The Lincoln Lawyer has so far adapted one book per season. Season 1 focused on the events of The Brass Verdict, which was the second book released in 2008. Season 2, on the other hand, was based on The Fifth Witness, the fourth book published in 2011. While Humphrey didn't disclose the book which will serve as the basis for season 4, he did share that the upcoming season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer would be an adaptation of The Gods of Guilt, which was published in 2013.
Connelly has already published three other novels that can potentially be adapted into new seasons: 2020's The Law of Innocence, 2010's The Reversal, and the original The Lincoln Lawyer, which was made into a movie in 2011, starring Matthew McConaughey. Additionally, the seventh book in the series, titled Resurrection Walk, will be published this November.
Considering Connelly's ongoing writing of Mickey Haller books, there might even be an eighth novel in the series by the time The Lincoln Lawyer catches up with him. This provides the show with ample opportunity to continue beyond season 4. If it gains enough popularity to extend further, it could eventually deviate from the source novels. However, currently, there is more than enough material to work with.
