Warning: Spoilers ahead for episode 5 of The Lazarus Project season 1. In this episode, George continued his criminal activities by targeting Big Boy, the nuclear warhead capable of ending the world. As it turned out, George was the mole within the Lazarus Project, a fact that came as no surprise to the newest member of the project. This member had alerted the Lost Glory and instructed Rebrov to kill Ryan. Despite having multiple motives to betray Lazarus, George managed to remain undetected in episode 5.
Driven by the tragedy of Sarah's death, George was determined to resurrect her by pressuring Lazarus to use their time machine. He was prepared to go to any lengths to ensure this outcome, even resorting to the murder of Shiv in episode 4 to protect his sinister plans. Much to George's advantage, Shiv's death served multiple purposes for him in episode 5.
5 Shiv Recruited Archie For The Lazarus Project
Content: The Lazarus Project's fifth episode of season one continued its time-jumping format, shedding light on Archie's involvement with Lazarus. Back in 2011, a mysterious man named Matthew Rogers recruited Archie for MI5. Fast forward three years, and she found herself undercover, targeting the notorious Georgie Cunningham. However, this posed a problem for Lazarus, prompting them to send Shiv to convince Archie not to arrest Cunningham. The consequences of capturing Cunningham would trigger a catastrophic chain of events leading to the apocalypse.
During Shiv's conversation with Archie (after breaking into her home), it became evident that they had had this discussion previously. The previous encounter did not end well, indicating that Lazarus had utilized their time machine. Fortunately, this time, Archie agreed to Shiv's plea and backed off from Cunningham. Consequently, Lazarus recruited Archie, and the rest unfolded as history would have it. However, there were additional elements to this tale that afforded viewers a deeper understanding of Shiv's character.
The first time Shiv attempted to dissuade Archie from pursuing Cunningham, she declined, having witnessed the criminal murder an innocent civilian who worked at a burrito truck earlier that day. Determined to succeed the second time, Shiv made sure the civilian remained unharmed and even purchased a burrito from him, which he consumed during his initial encounter at Archie's apartment. Undoubtedly, Shiv had an underlying motive to save the civilian in The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 5. However, the subsequent narrative unveiled Shiv as a virtuous individual, shedding light on why Archie placed such immense trust in him.
4 Shiv Was Sending Money To Janet
In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 3, George inquired about Janet's income source, and it wasn't until episode 5 that he finally received an answer. To his surprise, Shiv had been secretly making encrypted payments to Janet after she left Lazarus. The reason behind this gesture remained unclear, but one speculation was that Shiv felt guilty about the loss of Janet and Rebrov's son in 2018. It seemed probable that Shiv held himself responsible for the tragedy, considering he had mistakenly targeted the wrong person, leading Lazarus to resort to using the time machine. In any case, this new revelation provided George with further evidence to implicate Shiv within the span of an hour.
3 George & Rebrov Framed Shiv
After George murdered Shiv and utilized a secret phrase that led to Ryan’s death by Rebrov’s hands, he escalated his betrayal by implicating Shiv in his crimes in episode 5 of The Lazarus Project season 1. Chaos ensued when guards discovered Ryan's lifeless body near Rebrov's prison cell, prompting Archie and Wes to investigate the horrifying incident. Rebrov confessed that he only killed Ryan because of the secret phrase spoken by the technician. However, in exchange for revealing the identity of the organization's traitor, he demanded something in return.
Although Archie hesitated to strike a deal with Rebrov, Wes appeared unfazed by the proposition. As Wes conversed with Rebrov, Archie made several unsuccessful attempts to reach George, who had been unresponsive. Eventually, George answered Archie's call and was informed about Shiv's financial transactions with Janet. George disclosed that he was currently in Romania, supposedly in pursuit of Shiv, further incriminating the deceased individual found in his trunk. Nevertheless, Archie remained steadfast in rejecting the notion that Shiv would betray Lazarus, even after Rebrov implicated Wes as the mole.
2 George Killed 2 More People
Archie and Shiv had a extensive past, therefore, it is understandable that she would be hesitant to believe that he would betray Lazarus. However, it is even more perplexing to comprehend that nobody, particularly Archie, ever suspected George as the informant. He was the one who was mourning and, furthermore, being the newest recruit in The Lazarus Project season 1, George should have been the primary suspect.
In episode 5 of The Lazarus Project, just when the audience believed George couldn't be more frustrating, he added to his list of wrongdoings by killing two more innocent individuals. Despite his loss of Sarah and his refusal to properly grieve, George's actions cannot be excused. While it is ironic that the police officer got run over by the truck, an unintended consequence, George intentionally inflicted harm on him by hitting him with his door. Furthermore, George willingly shot the truck driver, even though he appeared horrified by his own actions. As a result, it is becoming increasingly challenging to support George in season 1 of The Lazarus Project.
1 George Found The Bomb In The Lazarus Project
In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 5, George faces numerous obstacles but manages to find what he was searching for: Big Boy. Despite initial suspicion from Rudy, the caretaker of the bomb, George convinces him that he is affiliated with the Lost Glory, even though it contradicts the group's principles. Together, they set out to transport the bomb. However, it becomes evident that either Rudy was not as easily fooled as he seemed, or someone else was following them. Another car appears in the distance, indicating that George may face challenges from the Lost Glory in the upcoming episode.
