The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 4: Jaw-Dropping Plot Twists Unveiled!

In this episode, George demonstrates his unwavering commitment to getting Sarah back, even if it means putting his own life at risk. Despite the loss of Sarah at the end of episode 2, George refuses to properly mourn, likely due to his involvement with a secretive agency possessing a time machine. However, as the Lazarus agents are prohibited from using the time machine for personal gain and lack direct access to it, George seeks assistance elsewhere.

Rebrov, a former Lazarus agent turned terrorist, directs George to his former partner, Janet, who agrees to create a detonator for the missing warhead in episode 3. With this in hand, George's next task is to locate the terrorist organization called the Lost Glory, which possesses knowledge of the missile's whereabouts. George aims to detonate the warhead, forcing Lazarus to return to the most recent checkpoint when Sarah was still alive. Although George comes close to catching up with the Lost Glory in episode 4, one of his vigilant and stealthy colleagues discovers his plans and manages to temporarily obstruct him.

5 The Lazarus Project Recruited Shiv As A Teenager

In episode 4 of The Lazarus Project, the backstories of the different Lazarus agents were further unveiled. This particular episode shed light on Shiv's introduction to the organization. Previously established in the premiere, Shiv possessed the rare ability to be aware of the time loops since birth. As an infant, it became evident when he faced a day where he could not communicate or walk, only to regain those abilities the following day. Recognizing the advantage of his "superpower," Shiv began using it to place bets on horse races.

Tragically, during Shiv's teenage years, his family perished in a devastating fire that consumed his uncle's store. However, Shiv patiently awaited the day he could turn back time and save them. Ultimately, he succeeded in rescuing them, although this action unintentionally brought trouble to his cousin with law enforcement. Subsequently, Wes recruited him into the Lazarus organization.

It remains unclear how Wes and the agency discovered individuals with innate abilities, but the fact that they waited so long to reach out to Shiv is rather unsettling. For 13 years, he was completely unaware of what was happening to him. However, expecting a teenager to bear such a huge responsibility was quite overwhelming. Regardless of the circumstances, Shiv has always found himself caught in a lose-lose situation in The Lazarus Project​​​​​​.

4 Shiv Inadvertently Let Rebrov Escape In 2018

In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 4, it became apparent that Shiv had carried a heavy burden of guilt for many years due to the unfortunate events involving Rebrov and Janet. His mistake of killing the wrong individual not only allowed the world-ending threat to persist in 2017 and 2018 but also necessitated the use of a time machine. Consequently, Rebrov and Janet endured the heartbreaking loss of their son, and Shiv felt a deep sense of responsibility for their suffering. It is possible that his overwhelming guilt contributed to a momentary lapse in caution when apprehending Rebrov in 2018.

Shiv pursued Rebrov in a relentless pursuit after the perpetrator mercilessly took the lives of two Lazarus agents. Eventually catching up to him, Shiv swiftly incapacitated Rebrov by shooting him in the leg. Wasting no time, Shiv promptly delivered him to the hospital for medical aid. However, when Shiv arrived at Janet's location, she had already vanished without a trace. While hope of capturing Rebrov lingered, an unexpected turn of events occurred at the hospital. Rebrov, resourceful as ever, managed to overpower a guard, claim his freedom, and evade custody. In hindsight, it is undeniable that Shiv should have implemented stronger security measures in the hospital room to prevent Rebrov's escape during The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 4.

Once George managed to acquire a detonator in episode 3 of season 1 of The Lazarus Project, his next task was to locate the Lost Glory as well as the missing warhead. His ultimate objective was to gain the trust of the terrorist organization, initiate the missile launch, and bring about the apocalypse. Fortunately, George's search for the Lost Glory was surprisingly brief.

2 George Murdered Shiv

After seizing the group's hideout in the Czech Republic, Lazarus stumbled upon enigmatic maps. Perplexing everyone, it was George who astutely unearthed a concealed IP address while examining the maps at home. Determining its geographical coordinates led him to a Romanian town, prompting George's spontaneous decision to embark on a journey to the country in episode 4 of The Lazarus Project's first season. Regrettably, George's enthusiasm overshadowed his attention to detail, resulting in a slightly hasty getaway plan.

In an unexpected turn of events, George surreptitiously utilized Sarah's credit card to secure a plane ticket bound for Bucharest. To further complicate matters, he cunningly feigned illness, conveniently coinciding with The Lazarus Project's enthralling first season, episode 4. Desperate to alert Archie, George's initial contact, he encountered an unexpected absence from her post. However, Shiv, astutely intuitive, quickly seized the opportunity and apprehended an unsettling dissonance. Thus, he enlisted the aid of fellow Lazarus operative Ryan to discreetly scour George and Sarah's undisclosed monetary transactions. It was during this clandestine investigation that Shiv's astute deductions unearthed George's clandestine journey to Romania, prompting him to embark on his own pursuit.

George believed he was clever by using Sarah's credit card instead of his own, but it was actually a reckless decision. Sarah was deceased, making it suspicious that someone was accessing her bank account, and it wouldn't be difficult for someone to discover that George was responsible. After using the card for a plane ticket, George continued using it for various expenses like train fare, water, and food. As a result, Shiv easily traced his movements and located him in Romania.

A confrontation between George and Shiv arose on the train, where George temporarily incapacitated Shiv, took his gun, and escaped. Shortly after George leapt from the train, Shiv regained consciousness and pursued him through a nearby village. Shiv ultimately caught up to George and attempted to reason with him. However, George, consumed by grief, could not be reasoned with and shot Shiv, resulting in his demise. Although George was aware that the warhead would bring Shiv back to life, his actions in The Lazarus Project were still unjustifiable. Furthermore, it meant that George would become a wanted fugitive.

1 George Ordered Rebrov To Kill Ryan In The Lazarus Project

In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 4, George asked about Shiv's whereabouts before fatally shooting him. Shiv lied, but texts from Ryan on Shiv's phone later revealed the truth. George, posing as Shiv, ordered Ryan to deliver a message to Rebrov using the secret code "Big plans are afoot." As a result, Rebrov snapped Ryan's neck, covering up George's tracks.

While George's betrayal of Lazarus and desire to save Sarah from the end of the world was somewhat understandable after episode 3, episode 4 made it difficult to sympathize with him. In the first half of the episode, George criticized Lazarus for their treatment of prisoners, only to cause two deaths by the end. After The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 4, it remains uncertain whether the audience should support or oppose George.
