In preparation for Diablo 4 Season 1, players should make necessary preparations with their main characters to gain a significant advantage. Although all players will be reset to level 1 at the start of Season of the Malignant, new characters will not begin entirely from scratch.
Although any exceptional equipment and flawed strategies accumulated during the initial pre-season phase will be rendered useless in Season of the Malignant, certain elements will persist when players introduce their first seasonal character to Sanctuary. Below are the essential tasks players must undertake in order to ready themselves for Diablo 4 Season 1.
Diablo 4: What Carries Over Between Seasons?
Blizzard confirmed during their July campfire live stream that in the Season of the Malignant, certain elements from the pre-season will carry over, specifically map progress and Altar of Lilith completion. Moving forward, players will begin their new adventure with areas their main characters have already explored visible, and any previously interacted Altar of Lilith will grant bonuses to their seasonal characters right from the beginning.
Furthermore, players who have already finished the main story will have the option to skip the campaign when playing with their seasonal characters. It is important for new players to speed up their progress if they plan on participating in the Season of the Malignant.
It is highly recommended to unlock Altars of Lilith as they provide stats that will greatly accelerate the early leveling process. Having high levels of Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Willpower contributes to a character's combat effectiveness, allowing players to challenge higher-level enemies and clear content more efficiently.
Furthermore, progress made in Altar exploration and maps will carry over to seasonal characters. This means that players can start their new characters at level 7 and have a substantial amount of gold and bonus skill points from Renown rewards. Although Blizzard has not confirmed this, the prevailing belief among community members is that Renown rewards can be collected as soon as the new season begins.
To retain progress in Diablo 4, Blizzard requires players to log in with their character with the highest progress before Season of the Malignant commences. This step is necessary for the game to save the account's progress and include it for seasonal characters.
Diablo 4 is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
