Taking inspiration from Gege Akutami's comments on Toji's past and information from the manga, the Hibernation one-shot delves into the story of a young Toji. Within the scenario, members of the Zen'in clan subject him to a cursed test, determining whether he possesses the ability to perceive cursed spirits. Unfortunately, Toji's heavenly limitation prevents him from seeing these spirits, leading the clan to disregard him as worthless.
Consequently, Toji's mother chose to end her own life by hanging herself from a sakura tree. Toji was traumatized by the sight of his mother's lifeless body, but his father promptly intervened, instructing his staff to remove the body as it was deemed unsightly.
Subsequently, Toji found himself undergoing rigorous training as a member of the Kukuru unit. However, during this time, a superior from the Zen'in clan forcefully dragged him to a pit teeming with cursed spirits. Mockingly boasting about his own son's remarkable accomplishments at the same age, the superior callously pushed Toji into the abyss.

The chapter then transitions to a scene where Toji is severely injured, having been unconscious for three days. Additionally, the chapter reveals the origin of Toji's distinctive scar, which he obtained while being attacked by cursed spirits in a pit. Concluding the Hibernation one-shot, Toji engages in a conversation with his father, expressing his unwavering determination to survive even if he were to hang himself. Furthermore, he boldly proclaims that he will inflict torment upon the Zen'in clan before meeting his end.

This remarkable manga incorporates essential details from the original series, staying true to the canon, and skillfully fills in the missing pieces with convincingly realistic portrayals of the Zen'in clan.
Toji Fushiguro's backstory is extensively explored in the manga. However, this one-shot serves as a plausible side story that is based primarily on the manga's information. Fans have expressed the necessity of this one-shot and have also expressed their desires for Gege Akutami to either confirm it or release an official side story or one-shot that delves into Toji's backstory.
