Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 7
Summary
Siuan becoming a traitor to Moiriane establishes her as an adversary to the Dragon Reborn, resulting in a strained and confrontational dynamic with the Aes Sedai.
The developments unfolding in Cairhien will uncover the real identity of the Dragon Reborn, possibly leading to Siuan's removal from power and the appointment of a fresh Amyrlin Seat.
Siuan's actions have compelled Verin to make a difficult decision between loyalty to the White Tower or the Dragon Reborn. This choice could result in Verin facing expulsion and being stripped of her powers, leading to her departure from Tar Valon. Once again, The Wheel of Time deviated from the original material by creating a showdown between Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche in season 2 episode 7 titled "Daes Dae'mar." This episode intensified the heated debate surrounding Rand's destiny, forcing characters to align themselves with opposing sides.
Siuan Sanche Has Become An Enemy Of The Dragon Reborn
: Diverging Paths: The Fallout from Rand's ActionsFor years, Moiraine and Siuan had shared a covert purpose - to locate the Dragon Reborn and guide him in fulfilling his destiny, to confront the Dark One and restore the world's balance in the imminent Last Battle. However, the recent turn of events provoked a significant rift between these two characters, causing them to embark on separate journeys. Rand's demeanor seemed to persuade Siuan that he should be imprisoned rather than left to roam freely. Consequently, Siuan utilized the power of the Three Oaths to coerce Moiraine into sealing the Waygate. Despite Lanfear's unexpected intervention, the characters managed to escape Cairhien. Yet, the repercussions of these events are bound to be extensive, setting the stage for further alterations to Robert Jordan's narrative.
Siuan's betrayal of Moiraine was a game-changer in the world of "Daes Dae'mar." Unlike her book counterpart, Siuan engaged in a meaningful conversation with Rand regarding his role as the Dragon Reborn. However, instead of manipulating and using him as a weapon, Siuan opted to protect him, thus transforming into an unexpected ally. She even emerged as a protagonist in her own right. In sharp contrast, the TV version of Siuan Sanche openly opposed both Moiraine and Rand, effectively severing any perceived alliance between them.
The Wheel Of Time Changes The Books' Setup For A New Amyrlin Seat
: Siuan has positioned herself, along with the Aes Sedai of the White Tower, as adversaries of the Dragon Reborn. While Rand's relationship with the Aes Sedai was never particularly amicable in the source material, they were not already in such hostile terms during the events of The Great Hunt. Additionally, Lanfear's involvement exacerbates the situation. Knowing that the Dragon Reborn received help from Lanfear, one of the 13 Forsaken in the Wheel of Time, few Aes Sedai would be willing to align themselves with him. Taking into account all these factors, the events in Cairhien have set the stage for a significantly more tense and adversarial dynamic with the Aes Sedai in the upcoming episodes.Siuan and Moiraine's secrecy surrounding the Dragon Reborn reaches its climax in the books, resulting in Siuan's deposition and loss of her powers. Despite Siuan's actions against him in the TV show, this storyline is likely to persist. However, the circumstances and consequences will differ. The tumultuous events in Cairhien and the impending chaos in Falme will inevitably lead to the truth being revealed. Siuan's pivotal role, particularly her custody of the Dragon Reborn, will undoubtedly come to light. This revelation will prompt the Aes Sedai to turn against Siuan and seek a new leader for the Amyrlin Seat. In the books, Elaida orchestrated Siuan's downfall and assumed her position. Since Elaida has not been introduced yet, Liandrin is well-positioned to step into her shoes.
Because Of Siuan, Verin Has Betrayed The Aes Sedai
Siuan's choice set in motion a second act of betrayal. In an earlier season, Verin Mathwin had shown willingness to assist the Dragon Reborn if needed. However, episode 7 forced her to choose between the White Tower and the Dragon Reborn. This deviation from the books occurred because Siuan captured Rand, leaving Verin with no choice. Verin's actions in sending Leane away and freeing Rand revealed her role in his escape, which is likely to result in her expulsion from the White Tower and potentially even stilling. Verin's early betrayal in season 2 is surprising, particularly when considering her loyalty to the White Tower in the books.
In the book version, Verin eventually turned against the Aes Sedai after Siuan was usurped by Elaida as Amyrlin Seat. She sided with the rebels in The Lord of Chaos. However, in the TV show's canon, Verin Mathwin may have to go rogue immediately and potentially join other characters in The Wheel of Time's future. This would provide an easy way to send Verin, along with Rand and the others, into the Aiel Waste, which is expected to be the setting for season 3 as it adapts The Shadow Rising.
