Summary
The Waitress has endured abuse, harassment, and torment from the Gang throughout the series, including stalking and attempted murder.
Charlie ended his communication with the Waitress out of the blue, after spending years longing for her, indicating that his romantic idealization of being with her did not match the harsh reality.
Under peer pressure from Dee, the Waitress returned to consuming alcohol and unbeknownst to her, Dennis covertly recorded a sexual encounter, exposing the Group's cruel and degrading treatment towards her.
Throughout the entirety of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Gang has consistently subjected the Waitress to a variety of horrific circumstances. Since the show’s debut episode, the Waitress has played a crucial role as part of the supporting cast and has made appearances in each subsequent season. Portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who happens to be married to Charlie Day in real life, it's amusing to witness the Waitress's repulsion towards Charlie on screen knowing their real-world connection.
Similar to anyone who becomes entangled with the Gang, the Waitress's life has steadily unraveled over the years. Due to the Gang's relentless actions, she has suffered through a multitude of abuses, harassments, and torments. While she hasn't descended as far as Cricket, who was once a prosperous priest prior to the Gang's influence, the Waitress has lost employment, sleep, and even experienced hair loss due to the reckless exploits of the Gang. From stalking to near-murder, the Gang has committed truly reprehensible acts against the Waitress.
10 Charlie Ghosted The Waitress (After Pining After Her For Years)
Charlie spent years relentlessly pursuing the Waitress, disregarding her repeated rejections and clear disinterest in a romantic relationship with him. However, when she eventually showed some reciprocation by sleeping with him in hopes of starting a family, he suddenly lost all interest in her. In the thirteenth season, first episode titled "The Gang Makes Paddy's Great Again," the Waitress persistently calls Charlie to find out his whereabouts, but he chooses to ignore her completely. Charlie had built up such an idealized fantasy in his mind that the harsh reality failed to meet his expectations.
9 Frank Poured A Bucket Of Dirty Dishwater On The Waitress
In season 6, episode 4 titled "Mac's Big Break," Mac aspired to achieve international recognition as a hockey star, while Dennis and Dee ventured into the realm of podcasting. Unfortunately, their podcast lacked success, as Frank's disruptive behavior included munching on crackers during microphone recordings, while Dennis expressed surprise at the extent of America's involvement in various wars. Their attempt to hold an intellectual discussion took a turn for the worse when they invited the Waitress as a special guest. Instead of engaging in thoughtful conversation, the podcast descended into crude shock-jock radio. In a misguided prank, Frank offered the Waitress $500 to consume soup from a shoe. However, faced with the absence of soup, he resorted to dousing her with dirty dishwater instead. Regrettably, this prank would not even elicit a response from the audience when delivered in an audio format.
8 Dee Peer-Pressured The Waitress To Start Drinking Again
When Charlie was mandated to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, he discovered that the Waitress was also in recovery. However, she reverted back to her old habits shortly after becoming involved with Dee. Dee, in her quest to emulate the indulgent lifestyle seen in season 4, episode 7, "Who Pooped the Bed?," encouraged Artemis and the Waitress to join her for a night out on the town. As a result of Dee's relentless peer pressure, the Waitress relapsed and has been grappling with alcoholism ever since. This serves as yet another compelling example of Dee's profound self-centeredness and detrimental influence on those around her.
7 Charlie, Dennis & Dee Got The Waitress Fired From Her Bar Manager Job
In "The Gang Sells Out," season 3, episode 7 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Paddy's Pub gets acquired by a corporate bar chain. Following this, Charlie, Dennis, and Dee find employment at the Oldies Rock Café, a playful nod to the renowned Hard Rock Café. Interestingly, the trio secures their jobs through the Waitress, who holds a managerial role at the establishment. Unfortunately, their reckless behavior, including stealing money from patrons, ultimately leads to the Waitress's termination, causing her career to reset. As expected, the Gang remains indifferent to the consequences.
6 Dee Left The Waitress Stuck In A Bog
5 Charlie Tried To Throw The Waitress Out Of A Window
During the Ireland-centric segment of "Always Sunny" in season 15, episode 7 titled "Dee Sinks in a Bog," Dee found herself trapped in a bog while en route to a date. Coincidentally, the Waitress, who was backpacking through Europe at the time when the Gang briefly relocated to the Emerald Isle, took immense pleasure in witnessing Dee's struggle before eventually offering assistance. However, instead of accepting the Waitress's help, Dee chose to climb over her and abandoned her in the bog. Unlike the Waitress, Dee lacked the decency to not leave her stranded. When Frank plummeted out of his apartment window in "Frank Falls Out the Window," the second episode of season 11, he suffered a peculiar form of amnesia that wiped out the previous ten years from his memory. Mistakenly thinking it was still 2006, Frank's head injury led him to believe in the existence of a time portal within the window. With Charlie oblivious to Frank's amnesia, he made a grave error in perceiving the window as a gateway to the past. In a misguided attempt to transport the Waitress back to 2006, Charlie resorted to shoving her out of the window. Despite Charlie's sorrowful actions towards the Waitress in the past, the act of attempted (albeit unintentional) murder unquestionably ranks among his most heinous deeds.
4 Dennis & Dee Stalked The Waitress To Get In The Mind Of A Serial Killer
When the Gang suspected that Mac may have been leading a double life as a serial killer in season 3, episode 10 titled "Mac is a Serial Killer," Dennis and Dee armed themselves and roamed the streets late at night to gain insight into the mentality of a serial killer. They selected the Waitress as their hypothetical target and trailed her closely. The Waitress must have experienced sheer terror, being pursued by two individuals intentionally dressed as serial killers. However, she managed to gain the upper hand by wielding a dependable can of pepper spray.
3 Frank Put Rat Poison In The Waitress' Shampoo
In season 8, episode 4, titled "Charlie and Dee Find Love," Charlie's infatuation with the Waitress came to an end when he found a new love interest. Consequently, Frank took it upon himself to carry out all of Charlie's secret endeavors aimed at improving the Waitress' life. However, Frank's confusion led to a series of mishaps. While Charlie used to add vitamins to the Waitress' shampoo and check for signs of food poisoning, Frank misinterpreted the instructions and ended up contaminating the shampoo with rat poison. As a result, the Waitress experienced hair loss and felt that her entire life was crumbling due to Frank's inability to comprehend (and Charlie's questionable writing abilities).
2 Dennis Filmed A Sex Tape With The Waitress Without Her Consent
1 The Gang Forgot The Waitress' Real Name
: In the fourth episode of season 4 titled "Mac's Banging the Waitress," an unsettling revelation came to light regarding Dennis' unethical behavior. Despite the Waitress being unaware, Dennis covertly recorded their intimate encounter, creating a sex tape without her informed consent. Shockingly, this was not an isolated incident. Dennis has surreptitiously filmed almost every sexual encounter he has ever had, further solidifying his reprehensible nature. To make matters more complex, the Waitress formed an intricate plan with Mac to eliminate the incriminating tape, only to discover that Charlie had already taken care of it on her behalf.
One of the most heinous acts committed by the Gang against the Waitress – or perhaps the most degrading – is their persistent disregard for her true identity. They consistently address her as "The Waitress," even after she left her job as a waitress and ventured into different professions. Considering their malicious acts of poisoning her shampoo with rat poison and dousing her with filthy dishwater, it would be considerate for them to acquaint themselves with her real name. However, the Gang from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia struggles immensely when it comes to recalling people's actual names, ranging from calling her Fatty Magoo to referring to another individual as Rickety Cricket.
