Amidst the chaos and adventure, players will eventually uncover the hidden story within Elden Ring. While some of the game's lore is revealed through cutscenes and character dialogue, a deeper understanding of The Lands Between requires players to delve into item descriptions, character quests, and explore all the locations in From Software's expansive RPG. This may seem overwhelming, but fortunately, content creators like VaatiVidya have made it more accessible.
The bosses in Elden Ring hold significant importance in the game's lore, as they all play crucial roles prior to the events of the game. One such pivotal character is Godfrey, the first Elden Lord. Godfrey's presence in the game cannot be underestimated, along with his formidable alter ego, the mighty Hoarah Loux.
Godfrey Is A Recurring Foe In Elden Ring
In his second phase, Godfrey undergoes a transformation, becoming more powerful and aggressive. He gains new abilities, such as summoning pillars of fire and unleashing devastating shockwaves. Players must adapt their strategies and be more cautious in order to defeat him in this heightened state. Successfully defeating Godfrey in his second phase will grant players access to the next area of Leyndell and bring them one step closer to their ultimate goal in Elden Ring.
Godfrey undergoes a transformation in his second form that is truly unparalleled. By defeating a lion-like shade perched on his back, he unleashes his inner savagery and assumes the title of Hoarah Loux, Warrior. This change in identity is accompanied by a significant alteration in the boss's combat techniques. No longer wielding an axe, Hoarah Loux seizes every opportunity to grapple his adversaries and pummel them with his bare hands. While he still executes ground pounds, Hoarah Loux favors close-quarter melee encounters, channeling the strength and ferocity of the beast he recently sacrificed.
Hoarah Loux Is Godfrey's True Nature
Looking deeper into the lore of Elden Ring reveals that the transformation of Hoarah Loux into Godfrey was not a one-sided affair. Before serving as Queen Marika's first consort, Hoarah Loux was a formidable warrior and chieftain. Upon assuming the role of the first Elden Lord, he made relentless efforts to control his instinct for bloodshed. To further establish his authority, he adopted the name Godfrey and carried the Beast Regent Serosh on his back, which manifests as a lion-like apparition witnessed by players during the boss battle. By doing so, Godfrey projected a more regal demeanor in the presence of others.
In the aftermath of the Leyndell's destruction, players find Godfrey at the foot of the Erdtree eagerly awaiting an audience with Marika and the Elden Beast. He believes he is being summoned once again to reclaim his title as an Elden Lord, which was unjustly taken from him and given to Radagon.
However, when confronted by the Tarnished, Godfrey realizes that he is not the one being called upon. This realization fuels his anger, causing him to direct his aggression towards the player. He fights with all his might, even resorting to tapping into his past powers to gain an advantage over his opponents. Despite his best efforts, the persistence and skills of the Tarnished ultimately lead to his defeat.
Elden Ring is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
