Neagley's Importance in Reacher Season 2
Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Reacher season 2 premiere. There is more to Neagley's cereal obsession in Reacher season 2 than meets the eye. Based on Lee Child's Bad Luck and Trouble, Reacher season 2 not only raises the stakes for the titular character but also reveals more about his past. Neagley, who briefly appeared in Reacher season 1, is among the primary characters in season 2 because she was once a crucial part of the titular character's 110th MP Special Investigations Unit. Several flashbacks in Reacher season 2 reveal how the military group was formed, and how Reacher never looked down on Neagley even though she was the only enlisted personnel on their team.

Apart from featuring flashbacks, Reacher season 2 also highlights how Neagley and Jack Reacher are closer to one another than anyone else on their team because they mutually respect each other's boundaries. However, beyond these evident details surrounding Neagley's characterization, the Amazon show also seems to highlight how Neagley has a strange obsession with cereal. While her love for cereal seems meaningless, it reveals something deeper about her characterization.

Neagley's Cereal Obsession
Neagley Is Obsessed With Cereal In Reacher Season 2. Many moments in Reacher season 2's premiere suggest that Neagley is obsessed with cereal. For instance, there are multiple scenes where she eats nothing but a bowl of cereal. In other moments from the series, eagle-eyed viewers will notice that many of her t-shirts also have cereal brand logos. From Post Waffle Crisp to Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, she has them all on her t-shirts in the second installment of Amazon's Reacher. Enjoying cereal as a food item is one thing, but having logos of different cereal brands on clothing highlights a different level of obsession. This makes it hard not to question whether the cereal logos are just brand placements done in the show or mean something more from a narrative standpoint.

Neagley's Cereal Obsession Explains Her Reacher Character. In an intriguing flashback from Reacher season 2, the titular character takes his newly formed 110th MP Special Investigations Unit team out for a beer. When Neagley calls him 'Sir,' he corrects her and asks her to call him Reacher like everyone else. Neagley tries to remind him that he is her senior, but he counters her by telling her that everyone is her senior because she is an enlisted Master Sergeant. This scene highlights how Neagley is among the youngest members of the team and also ranks below everyone else since she is not an officer. Owing to this, she is more or less like a 'little sister' figure, especially to Reacher, which is something the cereal logos on her t-shirts symbolize. There are several other moments in Reacher season 2 where it is evident that Reacher and Neagley have a platonic sibling-like relationship. Even when Karla Dixon enviously asks Neagley how she and Reacher are so close, Neagley explains how they not only understand each other's boundaries but also look out for one another when necessary. Neagley's love for cereal in Reacher season 2 seems to represent how the titular character perceives and treats her more as the younger sister he never had.
