Reacher season 2 will introduce new characters and change the setting, potentially causing issues for the series. Amazon's Reacher, based on Lee Child's novels, features Alan Ritchson as the formidable vigilante. In season 1, Reacher plans a short stay in the town of Margrave but ends up staying longer and joining forces with Oscar Finlay and Roscoe Conklin to solve a conspiracy related to his brother's murder. As the season progresses, Finlay and Conklin become integral to Jack's crime-solving efforts, and Jack develops a romantic relationship with Conklin.
However, as a self-proclaimed hobo, Reacher will move on to a new location in season 2. While this change could be beneficial, it means that Finlay and Conklin will no longer be part of the narrative and will be replaced by new characters. This transition may present challenges for the Amazon show, despite the exciting prospect of adapting Lee Child's book, "Bad Luck And Trouble," in season 2.
Season 1 Was Great Because Roscoe & Finlay Were Reacher's Opposites
In Reacher season 1, the dynamic between Roscoe, Finlay, and Reacher proved to be successful. The contrasting characteristics of the two Margrave citizens, Roscoe and Finlay, compared to Reacher's more aggressive approach to solving crimes, created tension initially. Reacher often relied on his physical strength and force to get his way, while Roscoe and Finlay followed more procedural methods. However, as the season progressed, their differences began to complement each other, leading to signs of cooperation and teamwork.
These opposing qualities also served as a source of humor throughout Reacher season 1. In episode 3, when they meet at Jolene's Chicken Shack, Reacher indulges in a large buffet, consuming various dishes such as fried chicken thighs, fried okra, ribs, collard greens, pole beans, rice with giblet gravy, and cottage cheese with peaches. In contrast, Roscoe opts for a buttermilk chicken sandwich, while Finlay settles for a spinach salad. This stark difference in their food choices brings amusement to everyone.
However, in Reacher season 2, it may be challenging to replicate the subtle character humor of season 1. This is because the upcoming season will introduce individuals from Jack's former military unit, who are likely to share similar traits and characteristics with him.
Reacher's Allies Will Be Much Stronger In Season 2
In Reacher season 2, Roscoe and Finlay, trained members of the Margrave Police Department, will find themselves working alongside their former teammate, the near-superhuman killer Reacher. While they are skilled in hand-to-hand and gun combat, they are considered "regular" cops who follow the rules. However, the dynamics will change as Reacher joins forces with them from the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit. Despite Reacher's impressive stature, he will not stand out as much among his comrades in season 2 as he did in season 1.
Joining Reacher in his crime-solving endeavors in season 2 is David O'Donnell, a character from Reacher's military past. According to the Lee Child books, David may appear to be a regular white-collar worker but he carries ceramic weapons to bypass metal detectors. This choice of weapons hints at his ruthlessness compared to Roscoe and Finlay. Another addition to Reacher's team in season 2 is Karla Dixon. While she may not have the same imposing physical presence as Jack, she easily overpowers her enemies in combat.
Dean McKenzie, another former member of Jack's 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, will also be part of Reacher season 2's roster. This suggests that the allies of the titular character will possess similar strength and skills, potentially resulting in more action-packed scenes. However, this could potentially diminish Jack Reacher's appeal as the larger-than-life imposing protagonist, particularly during intense action sequences. Moreover, with Reacher's team consisting of military experts, the stakes for his mission will likely be lower compared to when he had ordinary individuals like Roscoe and Finlay by his side.
1 Way Roscoe's Replacement Will Be Better In Reacher Season 2
Replacing the main characters from Reacher season 1 in season 2 can also bring some advantages. For example, Alan Ritchson's portrayal of Jack Reacher is meant to be stoic and solitary by nature. These characteristics make his romantic involvement with Roscoe in season 1 rather peculiar, considering he knew he would eventually have to leave her after solving the Margrave case. However, if Karla becomes Jack's love interest in Reacher season 2, the show can justify their relationship based on shared experiences and camaraderie from the military. This would result in Jack's romantic endeavors in Reacher season 2 feeling more natural and believable, in contrast to his relationship with Roscoe in Reacher season 1.
