Popular Twitch streamer Zack "Asmongold" Hoyt shared his thoughts on the recent NICKMERCS controversy involving Hasan's controversial joke about Dr Disrespect's marriage. Asmongold's comments came shortly after he addressed rumors about his potential move to Kick.
NICKMERCS sparked controversy when he commented on a video showing violence against pro-LGBTQ protestors, suggesting that these demonstrators should "leave little children alone." Many interpreted this as NICKMERCS condoning anti-LGBTQ violence, despite his denial. Activision responded by removing NICKMERCS' Call of Duty operator bundle, leading Dr Disrespect to uninstall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and demand an apology on behalf of his colleague. Streamer Hasan Piker then made a joke about Dr Disrespect's loyalty, implying that he prioritizes NICKMERCS over his own wife, referencing Dr Disrespect's previous infidelity scandal in 2017.
Dr Disrespect responded by insulting him, while NICKMERCS mentioned that Hasan is dead to him after that remark. Asmongold has now joined the conversation by recognizing that Hasan's joke was indeed "mean," but he is not obligated to be "nice" to Dr Disrespect, who made a regrettable decision when he cheated on his spouse. Hoyt also highlighted that the entire streaming community has been making jokes about the streamer's infidelity for years, indicating that it is not significant for Hasan to have crossed a particularly offensive line here. "It's simply not a major issue," Asmongold stated during a Twitch broadcast on June 20.
The majority of Dr Disrespect and Hasan's supporters have predictably taken the side of their respective streamer in the ongoing disagreement. However, a smaller fraction of social media responses to the argument have characterized it as a contrived controversy aimed at generating profit for NICKMERCS and his supporters.
In a show of solidarity with his colleague NICKMERCS, popular Twitch streamer TimTheTatman took a stand against the situation. He made a public announcement on June 11 via Twitter, expressing his discomfort with the idea of profiting from his own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 operator skin while his "friend" was unable to do so. As a result, he urged Activision to remove his cosmetic item from the game.
