While filming her latest Netflix special, Emergency Contact, comedian Amy Schumer shared a story about meeting Hilaria Baldwin backstage at Saturday Night Live several years ago. According to Schumer, Baldwin introduced herself as being from Spain and spoke with a heavy Spanish accent.
The actress Amy Schumer made a joke about Hilaria and Alec's large family and their Spanish-sounding names, implying that Hilaria, who was born in Boston as Hillary Hayward-Thomas, is not actually Spanish despite her claims. While the couple has seven children together with names like Jamón and Flamenco, Hilaria's background is not Spanish, and neither are her parents or anyone else in her life. Alec, who was previously married to Kim Basinger and has a daughter named Ireland, is currently 65 years old.
Hilaria Baldwin suggests that the reason behind the controversy surrounding her Spanish heritage is that she fell in love with Spain during her visits there. She acknowledges that many people love Spain, but for her, it holds a special place in her heart, and she even wishes to be identified with it.
After being accused of appropriating Spanish culture in 2020, Hilaria faced backlash and decided to speak out about the situation.
