FromSoftware fans have much to anticipate at the moment. The release of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is imminent, accompanied by an intensified marketing campaign. Following this, Elden Ring will receive a downloadable expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree, and there are rumors of another game in development by the developer. Although the new content for Elden Ring may seem distant, the incorporation of modern FromSoftware design in Armored Core 6 will surely captivate the community. The possibilities for Elden Ring's DLC are vast. The poster for Shadow of the Erdtree hints at a connection between Miquella and the spectral steed Torrent, and there are other unresolved storylines from the base game, such as the true identities of Melina, the Gloam-Eyed Queen, and the Prince of Death. However, with only a poster and gaps in information about the base Elden Ring, it is impossible to know exactly what to expect until a proper announcement is made for Shadow of the Erdtree. It is assumed that this announcement will happen after the release of Armored Core 6, but the exact timing is uncertain.
Elden Ring Can't Steal Armored Core 6's Spotlight
The release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in Elden Ring is uncertain and will depend on the release of the expansion. According to a financial report from Kadokawa Corporation, the DLC is not expected to be released before March 31, 2024, which means it may not coincide with Elden Ring's second anniversary. However, if the DLC contains multiple episodes as rumored, it may be considered acceptable. Although there are rumors suggesting that Shadow of the Erdtree may be released in 2024, it is possible that fans might receive updates about it in 2023. The summer convention season is still ongoing, and there are various events scheduled for the rest of the year. It is unlikely that news about the expansion will be revealed at San Diego Comic Con in July 2023, but there is a possibility of an announcement at Gamescom 2023, particularly during the Opening Night Live showcase on August 22. Gamescom is known for showcasing previously announced titles, making it a suitable platform to discuss Elden Ring's DLC, as well as potentially revealing a last-minute trailer for Armored Core 6.
Shadow of the Erdtree Could Keep Fans Waiting
However, fans are not interested in just hearing about the Elden Ring expansion. The chances of a trailer being released for Shadow of the Erdtree will only increase over time, and focusing on that instead of Armored Core 6 would be beneficial. The Tokyo Game Show 2023, taking place from September 21 to 24, could potentially showcase an Elden Ring trailer alongside other Bandai Namco games like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 or Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections. Since DLC trailers don't require elaborate stages, it would be sufficient to reveal them during a panel and then release localized trailers online.
Assuming that Shadow of the Erdtree will be released in April 2024 or shortly thereafter, The Game Awards 2023 may be the last major event where it could be featured. Unless Sony hosts a State of Play presentation, this would be the most likely place to see Elden Ring, especially considering its awards at the 2022 show. If fans are still waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree news beyond 2023, they may need to prepare for a summer or fall release window. Elden Ring's DLC should not be delayed beyond its projected 2024 release, but that still leaves plenty of time for a trailer to potentially be released.
Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
