How To Use Kameos in MK1 Effectively

Every Unlockable Kameo in Mortal Kombat 1

In order to keep the Mortal Kombat series fresh, each game introduces new game modes and fighting mechanics. With a 30-year history, Mortal Kombat 1 revolutionized tag-team combat with the introduction of the Kameo mechanic. This mechanic allows players to choose a partner with unique attacks and synergies.

MK1 presents a variety of Kameos, each with their own distinct abilities and finishers. This not only enhances the depth of combat, but also expands the range of abilities available to players. Mastering the Kameo mechanic is essential for success in online mode and certain singleplayer modes, as it plays a central role in gameplay.

Compensate For Character Weaknesses

Certain characters exhibit strength in specific domains while displaying weaknesses in others, be it their capacity to subdue adversaries or inflict long-range harm, or their aptitude to elevate adversaries into the air and maintain them suspended. Kameos offer a selection of distinct maneuvers, each equipping players with additional choices and expanding their repertoire of techniques.

Jax, for instance, has access to a ground pound that inflicts damage across a broad area with a slight delay. Cyrax, on the other hand, possesses the ability to shoot a long-range net, effectively immobilizing adversaries and allowing him to close the distance. Once you have familiarized yourself with the strengths and weaknesses of the characters in MK1, begin exploring various Kameos to discover how their unique moves and abilities can complement one another and fill in any gaps that exist.

Extend Combos By Incorporating Kameo Abilities

The use of Kameos in MK1 offers a highly effective method for extending combos. By harnessing their abilities, players can bridge the gap between challenging transitions and execute more intricate combinations successfully.

When paired with Stryker as a Kameo partner, Raiden can execute a F4, 3, 4 combo followed by Stryker's forward Kameo move. This launches enemies into the air, allowing Raiden to incorporate an Aerial element into their combo.

It can be challenging to execute Kameo moves with precise timing in order to extend combos. The most effective method for timing a Kameo ability is to input it immediately after the initial combo, seamlessly integrating it as part of the combo without any delay between inputs. Following the Kameo's combo extender, proceed with another combo – in the case of the aforementioned Raiden combo, consider performing the F3, 4 combo twice to juggle the opponent in mid-air, and conclude the combo sequence with the Razzle Dazzle ability (DF2).

Perform Unique Kameo Finishers

In addition to participating in players' Fatal Blows, each MK1 Kameo has its own unique Finisher. These finishers vary from Kameo to Kameo and pay homage to the character's classic Fatalities from their original games. Jax will grow massively and stomp on the enemy, Sub-Zero will forcefully remove their spine, Stryker will attach a bomb to the enemy, and so on.

Some Kameo fatalities are completely original and brand new finishers. For instance, Shujinko's Kameo finisher showcases him executing the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart technique on the opponent, inspired by Kill Bill.

To access the inputs for every Kameo's finisher, navigate to the Move List menu, and switch to the Kameo Moves tab. Within this section, players will find a comprehensive list displaying the names and corresponding inputs for each of Kameo's regular moves, along with the inputs required for their distinctive Kameo fatality.

Break Enemy Combos (With A Full Meter)

The Kameo system in Mortal Kombat 1 serves an important purpose - breaking combos. Combo breaking is dependent on the Meter, a bar located at the bottom left of the screen that fills up as players deal and take damage. To interrupt an enemy's combo, players must execute a Kameo in the middle of their input sequence. By pressing the Block input and forward, players can summon their Kameo, giving themselves some breathing room. However, it's important to note that the Meter must be completely full in order to successfully break a combo. Once a Combo Breaker has been used, the Meter will be depleted and cannot be used again until it has sufficiently recharged.

After players have chosen their main fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, they are introduced to a secondary roster of characters called Kameos. Currently, there are 15 Kameos available, including fan favorites like Jax and Frost, as well as characters who haven't been seen in the Mortal Kombat series for a while, such as Motaro and Sareena.

It is expected that more Kameo characters will be introduced in future Kombat Pack DLCs and Expansions. However, for now, players can unlock these fifteen characters by progressing their Account Level, or they can choose to purchase the MK1 Kameo Unlock Pack to get immediate access to all of them.
