The Heron's Call: The Doubts Surrounding Robert Pattinson's Casting

The director of anime film, The Boy and the Heron, initially expressed doubts about Robert Pattinson's voice casting However, the film later praised Pattinson for delivering a flawless performance

At first, the English dub voice director for the anime film The Boy and the Heron had doubts about Robert Pattinson’s voice casting, but he was quickly impressed by his performance. Casting the right actors in voice acting roles is crucial for ensuring the movie resonates with audiences.

The casting for the roles in Super Mario and Baby Shark has received mixed reactions from fans, with Chris Pratt's casting as the titular plumber receiving criticism while Offset's appearance in the Baby Shark film pleasantly surprising fans. Given this, it's no wonder that The Boy and the Heron director had some doubts when hearing that Robert Pattinson was cast as The Grey Heron. However, the director was genuinely shocked when Pattinson stepped into the recording booth to record for the role.

Boy and the Heron praises Pattinson for flawless performance

At first, voice director Michael Sinterniklaas had reservations about Pattinson's participation in The Boy and the Heron, stating to Indie Wire, "I thought he’s a fine actor, but there was nothing in his body of work to indicate that he could do this crazy thing."

Nevertheless, Pattinson swiftly alleviated any apprehension that Sinterniklaas had, as he was eager to take on the role and arrived thoroughly prepared with materials for his audition.

Upon visiting our Los Angeles studio, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying "OK, I've been contemplating this role and I've already recorded some material. Would you like to hear it?" Sinterniklaas remembered, "He then pulled out his iPhone and played some recordings that he had done in the Memos app, and it was already the perfect voice. I thought, 'Oh, bingo! You've already captured the character."

Although Pattinson was initially only cast for his voice, he managed to complete his filming in just two days. The crew praised his dubbing skills, with GKIDS' Director of Acquisitions and Development Rodney Uhler commending his dedication. "He knew he could do it," Uhler stated, adding that GKIDS had offered Pattinson the option to give up the role, but he chose to fully commit instead. "He showed up and delivered magic," Uhler concluded.
