The Grand Finale: Warrior Nun Season 2's Ending and What It Means for Season 3

Exploring the details of Warrior Nun season 2's ending and its implications for the upcoming season 3 and movie trilogy.

The Almost Extended Ending

OCS Newsletter "Questions From the Fandom" with Warrior Nun Showrunner Simon Barry

Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry has revealed that season 2's post-credits scene was almost very different compared to the cliffhanger ending's final cut. In the final scene, Beatrice is seen leaving the OCS, saying a quick goodbye to a few familiar characters on her way out. The last shot in the scene shows a divinium sword glowing, indicating Ava has returned from Reya's dimension.

Speaking with The OCS Newsletter, Barry revealed Warrior Nun season 2's ending sequence was almost much longer. At 46:32, the showrunner explains how Beatrice's goodbyes were originally going to feature more characters, but the scene was eventually cut down for time. Check out what Barry had to say below:

Beatrice actually stops to say goodbye to a lot more people. She has a moment with them all, and...we follow her coming into the new OCS. It was a much more - and I'm speaking also as a director here who's frustrated that I didn't get to put all my shots in - it was a much more grander, I thought, sequence, and longer. So the compromise was I could keep it, but I had to trim it shorter.

Setting Up Season 3

Beatrice leaving the OCS was motivated by her loss of Ava, who went into Reya's dimension to heal from the life-threatening wounds she sustained when defeating Adriel. The pair's separation set up a new dynamic for season 3, something Barry explained the premise of in this same interview. His ideas included Ava working alongside Reya in a way that could prove to be unknowingly dangerous to the world, with only Beatrice able to keep her from becoming an antagonist.

At first, the upcoming Warrior Nun movie trilogy was expected to resolve this cliffhanger, likely reuniting the pair at some point. However, details about the new films remain sparse, with Barry - who is not involved - indicating they may not be based on the cancelled Netflix series' storyline. Because of this, it seems Beatrice's trimmed finale may be the last viewers see of the characters for some time.

The Warrior Nun trilogy will involve the show's executive producer Dean English, and is expected to launch an expanded universe of other movies and TV shows. However, because the Warrior Nun movies followed a fan campaign to save the show, the upcoming films may not gain the same traction as the TV show did. It's unclear what this means for the franchise's future, but it could influence the return of Ava and Beatrice in some capacity. No matter what happens, though, the series provided a memorable ending to season 2 despite some parts having to be trimmed.

The Future of Warrior Nun

The news of the Warrior Nun movie trilogy has sparked curiosity among fans, with many wondering what the future holds for the beloved characters. The involvement of the show's executive producer Dean English and the promise of an expanded universe of other movies and TV shows have created anticipation for what's to come.

However, the uncertainty surrounding the new films and their connection to the cancelled Netflix series has left viewers questioning the fate of Ava and Beatrice. The potential impact of the fan campaign to save the show on the success of the upcoming films adds another layer of intrigue to the franchise's future.

Despite the uncertainties, the series' memorable ending to season 2 has left a lasting impression on fans, and the possibility of a return for Ava and Beatrice continues to be a topic of discussion among enthusiasts of the show.
