Kadokawa unveiled a captivating key visual for the highly-anticipated third season of the beloved isekai anime, KONOSUBA: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! on Thursday. The stunning artwork not only left fans eager for the next installment, but also confirmed that it is slated for release in 2024. This exciting announcement came hot on the heels of the conclusion of the first season of the spin-off series, KONOSUBA: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, which had been captivating audiences this Spring. The official website of the series was the first to break the news, accompanied by the introduction of the main staff and cast members, as well as the unveiling of the mesmerizing "ultra teaser visual" showcasing the series' beloved characters.
The first two seasons of KONOSUBA premiered in January 2016 and 2017 respectively. In November 2019, the animated film, KONOSUBA - God's Blessing on This Wonderful World– Legend of Crimson, was released in Japanese theaters. A spin-off series featuring Megumin as the main character aired in April and concluded on Thursday, totaling 12 episodes.
The KONOSUBA anime series is based on the original light novel series created by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima (known for The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School!). The light novel series concluded in May 2020 with its 17th volume. The spin-off novels, consisting of five volumes, were first published in July 2014 and concluded in May 2019. In addition to the anime and light novels, the series has also been adapted into manga and video games.
The teaser visual showcases a breathtaking view of lush green grass, capturing the attention of viewers in the first section of the frame. As the main characters enthusiastically march in a single-file formation, the grandeur of the mountains and sky dominates the background, evoking a reminiscent Windows XP-like atmosphere. Taking on the animated production of KONOSUBA's third season is Drive, known for their work on the KONOSUBA spin-off during the Spring season, replacing Studio DEEN who handled the previous two seasons.
Leading the direction of KONOSUBA season 3 is Yujiro Abe, who previously served as the episode director for Kaguya-sama: Love is War, while Takaomi Kanasaki, the director of the previous two seasons, returns as the Chief Director. The team also includes the familiar faces of series composer Makoto Uezu and character designer Koichi Kikuta. Reprising their roles from the previous seasons, Jun Fukushima portrays Kazuma, Rie Takahashi embodies Megumin, Ai Kayano lends her voice to Darkness, and Sora Amamiya brings Aqua to life. Fans can eagerly anticipate the arrival of KONOSUBA season 3, scheduled for release sometime in 2024.
