Summary
There are plans for Saw 11 in the pipeline, according to Oren Koules, the producer of the franchise. However, Koules stresses the significance of prioritizing the present film to effectively narrate John Kramer's tale.
Taking place between Saw and Saw II, Saw X follows John as he seeks revenge against scam artists. Saw 11 could serve as a sequel to Jigsaw or explore John's journey during the same timeframe as Saw X.
Renowned for introducing new elements and surprises to the franchise's history, the Saw movies must maintain this tradition in any future installment. Presently, the priority lies in crafting a captivating narrative centering around Jigsaw for the upcoming film.
Saw X producer, Oren Koules, has discussed the potential for Saw 11 as the forthcoming movie looks to revive the primary franchise. The previous installment in the gruesome horror series was Jigsaw in 2017, which occurred a decade after the first seven films. Although Spiral, the ninth movie, was released in 2021, it was considered a spinoff within the same universe. This forthcoming film will mark John Kramer's return to the Saw series after a six-year absence.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Koules shared that there are plans for Saw 11 to follow the release of Saw X. However, Koules emphasized the need to currently focus on the latest film in order to effectively convey John's narrative. Below are Koules' comments:
We have a sense of superstition, preferring not to get too ahead of ourselves. The film is set to be released in a few days. While we do have ideas for the next installment, we have not yet documented them. However, our focus for now is John Kramer's story - we wanted it to truly embody his character and narrate his tale. Thus, for the initial 30 minutes of the movie, John Kramer takes center stage, without any indication of Jigsaw.
What Would Saw 11 Look Like?
Despite being the 10th installment in the franchise, the latest film is set chronologically between the events of Saw and Saw II. Saw X showcases John as a heroic figure, driven by a thirst for revenge against con artists who deceived him into undergoing a miraculous but ultimately futile cancer treatment. In addition to Tobin Bell's return as John, Shawnee Smith will reprise her role as Amanda, a character that has appeared in multiple other films within the franchise.
Given the franchise's timeline, a potential follow-up to the latest Saw movie could occur at any point in the storyline. Saw 11 has the possibility of being a sequel to Jigsaw, where Logan Nelson carries on John's work in the present day. It is also conceivable for John himself to make a comeback in a future installment set in a similar timeframe as Saw X.
Regardless of how another film in the series unfolds, the Saw movies have consistently provided new context to the ever-expanding backstory of the franchise. Therefore, if a future film were to follow Saw X, it would need to maintain the same suspenseful twists that have become synonymous with the series. Currently, the primary focus is on crafting a captivating narrative centered around Jigsaw for the forthcoming release on September 29, 2023.
