The Tony Awards began with Julianne Hough and Skylar Astin as hosts of The Tony Awards: Act One, a live pre-show on Pluto TV. The first set of winners were announced, and a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre was presented by Jennifer Grey to her father, Joel Grey. The second part of the night, which aired at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, was headlined by Ariana DeBose, an Oscar winner and Tony nominee.
