If The Flash 2 ever gets the green light, director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that Eobard Thawne, also known as the Reverse-Flash, would be revealed as the murderer of Nora Allen. This aligns with the comic mythology of Barry Allen's character and would make Reverse-Flash the central antagonist in the sequel. Muschietti did not mention any specific casting choices, but he believed that this storyline would be the perfect fit for Ezra Miller's The Flash 2.
Well, Reverse Flash is the prominent figure that cannot be ignored, isn't it? It seems impossible to create another movie without acknowledging the one who, by all accounts, is responsible for the death of Barry's mother. Therefore, Reverse Flash takes on the role of the primary antagonist, looming large in the narrative.
The Flash 2 Story Introducing The Reverse Flash Would Have Been Perfect
Even though Reverse-Flash is the primary antagonist in Flashpoint - the DC storyline that served as inspiration for The Flash movie - the film already had a jam-packed storyline, making it challenging for Eobard to have a significant role. However, this is precisely why The Flash 2 would have been the ideal sequel to properly introduce the DCEU's iteration of Reverse-Flash. Additionally, it would provide an opportunity for The Flash sequel to explore Eobard's character in a fresh and distinctive manner, distinct from the portrayals by Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher in The Flash TV show.
The stakes of the sequel would be significantly heightened if Barry not only had to navigate this new universe he's trapped in, but also uncover the identity of his mother's killer, who happens to be a speedster with an intense animosity towards The Flash in the future. This would allow The Flash 2 to delve into aspects of Reverse-Flash that the Arrowverse never had the opportunity to explore, giving a fresh take on the character. Moreover, from an emotional perspective, it would be a captivating narrative to witness Barry being forced to confront his traumatic past once again, right after successfully freeing his father from prison.
However, the current issue is that fans shouldn't hold their breath for The Flash 2 to materialize, which means they may never witness the long-awaited resolution involving Reverse-Flash. Considering the film's underwhelming opening at the box office and the mixed reactions it received, DC Studios will likely continue to prioritize the development of their new DC Universe. Only time will reveal whether The Flash 2 will ultimately come to fruition.
