Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Frasier reboot episode 4.
Summary
Eddie, the beloved dog from the original Frasier series, has died, as confirmed in episode 4 of the Frasier reboot. The firehouse dog in the reboot might serve as a substitute for Eddie and potentially have a more significant role.
Eddie, the beloved pet dog in the original Frasier series, likely passed away due to old age shortly after Martin married Ronee. This conclusion is based on both the show's timeline and the real-life death of the dog who portrayed Eddie. In episode 4 of the Frasier reboot, the fate of Eddie is revealed. Frasier's return to Seattle meant reuniting with his father, Martin, with whom he had a difficult relationship. Their cohabitation became even more challenging for Frasier, recently divorced, when he discovered that Martin would be bringing his cherished dog, Eddie, into their shared home. Eddie, the Jack Russell Terrier, was a beloved character in the original series and a well-known canine figure on TV.
Frasier Reveals That Eddie Died Before The Reboot
Eddie's presence was felt throughout all 11 seasons of Frasier, with numerous episodes revolving around him. Even when he wasn't the main focus, he always managed to steal the scene, whether through his lovable or annoying antics (particularly in Frasier and/or Niles' eyes). Surprisingly, similar to how Frasier learned to bond with his father, he also began to form a certain fondness for the canine companion. Eddie could arguably be considered a true member of the Crane family, given his unwavering loyalty and companionship to the Crane patriarch. As the Frasier reboot confirms Martin's absence, one can't help but wonder what became of his beloved best friend.
In episode 4 of the Frasier reboot, titled "Trivial Pursuits," Freddy invites his father to his workplace to show Frasier the significance of his work. Annoyed by Frasier's perceived condescension towards his chosen career path, Freddy aims to prove his father wrong. Frasier, motivated to reconnect with his son, agrees to visit Freddy's workplace. However, he is unaware that the firehouse houses a dog that bears a striking resemblance to Eddie. Though Frasier does not explicitly mention Martin's beloved pet, he jokingly remarks, "I outlasted that little mongrel, I'll outlast you," alluding to Eddie and affirming his absence.
It is unclear whether the Frasier reboot will regularly include the firehouse dog, but doing so would certainly make it a fitting replacement for Eddie. Freddy does not appear to own the dog and does not interact with it, but its presence allows for it to be featured more prominently in the future. Despite Frasier's initial feelings towards Eddie, it is not unimaginable that he will eventually grow to love the new canine.
How Long After Frasier's Original Ending Die Eddie Die?
The original sitcom did not explicitly state Eddie's age when the show began. However, it can be inferred that he had already been under Martin's care for several years before Frasier's return to Seattle. This implies that at the end of the original Frasier, Eddie would have been over 11 years old. Considering dogs' life spans, it is likely that he passed away due to old age shortly after Martin married Ronee. The original dog who portrayed Eddie, named Moose, also passed away in 2006 at the age of 16. It is possible that Moose's fictional character also met a similar fate.
