The History of Spider-Man and Daredevil
MCU's Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has acknowledged the possibility of Peter Parker and Matt Murdock teaming up, possibly in the MCU's Spider-Man 4 or in Daredevil's first MCU entry, Daredevil: Born Again. By Phase 5, Spider-Man's MCU journey has reached a milestone with his bittersweet victory in Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Daredevil's MCU journey is only beginning with his first suited-up appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Considering that Tom Holland's Peter Parker and Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock have already met in the MCU, a full-fledged team-up in any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming movies is quite likely.
Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Spider-Man's Final Swing in No Way Home's Ending
Spider-Man and Daredevil are often depicted as close friends in Marvel Comics. Their street-level conflicts usually bring them together against common foes, especially against Kingpin, who's a Spider-Man villain as much as Daredevil's archnemesis. Beyond their battles, Spider-Man and Daredevil know each other's secret identities, so they also share support in difficult times and confide their personal struggles to one another. Given their history, the idea of a full-blown Spider-Man and Daredevil MCU team-up has been a popular one. In a February 2022 interview with THR, Tom Holland talks about his experience working with Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home, expressing his interest for a future team-up. Read the quote below:
MCU Spider-Man from No Way Home between blurred images of Daredevil and Kingpin
Working with Charlie was incredibly exciting. I was a big fan of the Daredevil series, and I think he’s a fantastic actor. He’s done a wonderful job with that character, and albeit it was a small cameo, it obviously teased the future of what could be. It was a real actors’ piece, that scene. We blocked the scene, which was essentially us just sitting there, and we read the lines. It was great. It felt like an actors’ workshop while working with people I really look up to, and Charlie was a lot of fun. It was really cool to see him snap back into a character that I am really a fan of and that he has a lot of love for, obviously. So it was pretty awesome, and I hope that one day we find a way for Spider-Man and Daredevil to team up again.
Will Daredevil Return In Spider-Man 4?
By the middle of Phase 5, information about the MCU's Spider-Man 4 has been scarce. Tom Holland has confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is in early development, but that nothing is set in stone yet. With no plot revealed yet, any MCU character could be considered for Spider-Man 4 as a supporting character, from Daredevil to Captain America to Ant-Man — and if Sony is willing — Venom as well. The MCU's Spider-Man 4 still needs to attach a director and define its plot in order to start bringing in more characters and cameos.
However, Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending suggests that Spider-Man 4 will be a more grounded story. Spider-Man has lost all his relationships and technology, which may motivate him to focus on less powerful threats. As Spider-Man faces street-level challenges in New York City, he's very likely to cross paths with other street-level heroes, namely Daredevil and the Punisher, Echo, Jessica Jones, and Kate Bishop. With Kingpin developing a bigger MCU role in Echo, Spider-Man could team up with Daredevil to face the villainous powerhouse together in Spider-Man 4.
Will Spider-Man Appear In Daredevil: Born Again?
While a Spider-Man and Daredevil MCU team-up is likely, it's much more likely for Daredevil to appear in a Spider-Man movie than it is for Spider-Man to appear in Daredevil: Born Again. MCU Disney+ shows tend to forego A-list cameos in order to avoid stealing the spotlight from the protagonists and keep the main focus on more self-contained storylines. Spider-Man's supporting role or cameo in other MCU movies or shows would also require Disney and Sony to work together outside Spider-Man 4, which could entail more time and budget than necessary. Since Daredevil: Born Again has already gone through heavy reshoots, Matt Murdock's first MCU title is likely to focus solely on Daredevil.
