Simone Biles dominated the US Women's World Championships Selection Event on Tuesday, marking another milestone in her remarkable comeback to competitive gymnastics. The 26-year-old superstar achieved an impressive all-around total of 55.700, placing her ahead of Shilese Jones who finished second with a score of 55.300 at the event held in Katy, Texas.
Biles secures her spot on the US team for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, taking place in Antwerp, Belgium, starting on September 30. This marks her sixth qualification for the world championships, with her first being in 2013, coincidentally held in Antwerp as well.
"Returning to the place where everything began. Looking forward to seeing you again soon, Belgium," Biles shared on Instagram.
During her inaugural participation in the world championships held in Antwerp a decade ago, Biles secured the top titles in the all-around and floor exercise events, while also earning a silver medal in vault and a bronze in beam.
Having achieved numerous accolades, she has amassed a total of 25 world championship medals, comprising 19 golds, three silvers, and three bronzes.
Biles, who holds the title for the most decorated gymnast in US history, has triumphed with 32 medals in both the Olympics and world championships.
She is making a comeback in competitive gymnastics after a two-year break since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she withdrew from multiple events due to experiencing the "twisties" - a mental obstacle causing a gymnast to lose their sense of positioning while in midair. In August, Biles achieved a remarkable victory at the US Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California, securing her eighth national all-around title.

Chellsie Memmel, the high performance technical lead for USA Gymnastics women's program, stated that despite securing her spot on the US trip to Belgium, Biles expressed discontentment with her overall performance.
"I embraced her tightly and offered my heartfelt congratulations, acknowledging that she had secured her spot," stated Memmel, the esteemed all-around champion of the 2005 world championship, as reported by the Olympics website.
"She appeared slightly crestfallen, prompting me to reassure her by acknowledging that it may not have been her finest performance. She responded by expressing her confusion, to which I encouraged her to let it all out. I assured her that everything will be alright, reassuring her that we can simply move forward from here."
The other five athletes joining Biles on the US team for the world championships will be announced by USA Gymnastics on Wednesday.
