During the recent Xbox Showcase, Microsoft's first-party studios dominated the majority of the show with over 25 announcements within an hour. The showcase featured highly anticipated titles such as Fable and Avowed, as well as smaller yet equally exciting titles like 33 Immortals and Jusant. However, one unexpected appearance during the showcase was Overwatch 2. Sandwiched between Forza Motorsport and Persona 5 Tactica, the Overwatch 2 trailer showcased new content for the game set to release in August. The trailer highlighted a brand new PvP mode, new training challenges, and the first look at story missions that have been recently revamped. The most intriguing part of the Overwatch 2 trailer was the announcement that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers would have access to an exclusive Hero pack, potentially hinting at upcoming developments.
Overwatch 2's Xbox Game Pass Integration Could Be a Sign of Things to Come
Overwatch 2's live-service model has caused controversy, with some fans unhappy that new content is not completely free. However, the game's approach does allow for consistent updates with fresh content. Each new Season introduces a new playable Hero, but players usually need to purchase the Battle Pass to access them. Fortunately, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will soon be able to enjoy a fantastic offer. As of August 10, the same day as the new Overwatch 2 Season is released, subscribers will be able to claim the "New Heroes Starter Pack". This offer grants complete access to all five of the game's new Heroes, such as Sojourn, Kiriko, Junker Queen, Lifeweaver, and Ramattra. Additionally, players will have access to the newly teased Support Hero, as well as a range of legendary skins and in-game cosmetics, all included with their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Players who wish to bypass the extensive grind and gain permanent access to all of Overwatch 2's new Heroes have had to purchase the Premium Battle Pass three times for Kiriko, Ramattra, and Lifeweaver. This translates to a minimum expense of $30 for Overwatch 2, with an additional $10 expected for the next Season's Support Hero. The current Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer is an exceptional deal, saving players over $40, provided they haven't already spent the money. This offer could be just the beginning of more enticing offers for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the Microsoft-Activision/Blizzard acquisition progresses. While the acquisition has experienced some obstacles in the UK, the rest of the world seems to be on board with the deal, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to more deals like the Overwatch 2 one in the future, encouraging them to play the newly acquired Activision/Blizzard games and maintain their subscription.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
