The Blue Beetle film will introduce new characters to the DCU movie universe, potentially including an OMAC. An OMAC is a specific type of villain found in DC Comics. The movie already features villains Victoria Kord and Conrad Carapax, portrayed by Susan Sarandon and Raoul Max Trujillo, respectively. These two antagonists will likely provide a sufficient challenge for the new DC hero, but there may be another villain in store.
Directed by James Gunn and produced by Peter Safran, Blue Beetle serves as the first installment in the new DCU. Xolo Maridueña portrays the titular character, who makes his debut on the big screen in this film and will continue to feature in future DCU projects. In the movie, Jaime Reyes (Maridueña) gains superhuman abilities after bonding with an extraterrestrial Scarab. This Scarab grants him enhanced strength and power, enabling him to combat villains with superpowers.
What Is An OMAC In DC Comics?
OMAC, originally created by Greg Rucka in a 2005 DC Comic book storyline, stands for Observational Metahuman Activity Construction. However, its meaning has evolved to Omni Mind And Community. Despite the differences in the definitions, both pertain to the same type of entity. An OMAC is a human who has undergone transformation into a cyborg.
It should be noted that the DC hero Cyborg is not an OMAC. The designation applies specifically to a certain type of cyborg created as a result of virus exposure. Once activated by Brother Eye, the human is enveloped in organic armor and compelled to fulfill the desires of Brother Eye, without any means of escape.
Brother Eye, originally created by Batman in the comics, is an artificial intelligence designed to gather data on existing metahumans. However, like many technologies that monitor both heroes and villains in the comics, it is often manipulated for sinister purposes by individuals, turning Brother Eye into one of Batman's most significant mistakes. In the modern continuity, the villain Maxwell Lord is responsible for the creation of OMACs. Although Maxwell Lord has previously appeared in the Supergirl television series and is not expected to appear in Blue Beetle, this does not rule out the possibility of an OMAC making an appearance.
A Blue Beetle Fan Theory Suggests Another Villain Could Be An OMAC
In a promotional spot for Blue Beetle, Jaime is shown being struck by an adversary, prompting him to question the identity of his attacker. The Scarab communicates with him, alerting him to the presence of an impending "OMAC," a formidable force that seems to pose a challenge to Blue Beetle's abilities. This teaser strongly implies that at least one OMAC will make an appearance in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie.
As the OMACs are the creation of someone with access to extraordinary technology, it is plausible that Victoria Kord develops them in her pursuit of obtaining the Scarab from Jaime Reyes. This implies that the OMACs could serve as anonymous, automated soldiers, allowing the movie to showcase Jaime defeating numerous enemies, while still positioning Victoria and Carapax as the primary antagonists. Another potential explanation exists.
A popular fan theory suggests that Carapax himself might be an OMAC. Although this deviates from his original comic book narrative, it could better align with the storyline of the Blue Beetle movie. Origin stories in comic book movies frequently amalgamate or alter elements.
Conrad Carapax, famously known as Carapax the Indestructible Man, gained recognition in the original comic book plot where he stumbled upon an invincible robot during his archaeological work. Tragically, as Carapax ventured to unravel the robot's inner workings, it claimed his life; nevertheless, his consciousness endured within the robotic entity. Speculating the possibility, it is plausible to envision Carapax as an OMAC rather than a human mind inhabiting a machine.
The highly anticipated arrival of Blue Beetle on the silver screen is scheduled for August 18.
