Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 7.
Summary
Ahsoka deliberately chooses not to activate her lightsabers while battling Shin Hati, showcasing her strategic thinking.
Demonstrating her sincere willingness to assist Shin, Ahsoka extends her guidance and extends an invitation for Shin to join their group.
Shin, realizing her defeat against Ahsoka and the others, decides to flee and run away. It remains unknown where she will seek refuge and whether she will find redemption in the end.
In the climax of Ahsoka episode 7, a confrontation between Ahsoka Tano and Shin Hati takes place. However, intriguingly, Ahsoka chooses not to activate her lightsabers and engage in combat with Shin. This is not the first time Ahsoka has made seemingly unconventional choices during her fights. For instance, in episode 4, when dueling Baylan Skoll, she opts to use only one lightsaber instead of both. While Ahsoka's choice to duel Baylan with a single saber is justified due to his aggressive fighting style, her decision to face Shin without activating any sabers presents a more perplexing approach to battle.
Ahsoka's extensive combat experience with lightsaber opponents enables her to surpass Shin Hati's training as a Dark Jedi Padawan. It is important to mention that Shin appears eager to persist in the fight. However, it is only when Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren successfully handle the Death Troopers and join Ahsoka that Shin steps back to reconsider her strategy. With her backup gone, Shin not only realizes she is outnumbered against the three of them but also recognizes the formidable challenge Ahsoka poses on her own.
Ahsoka Knows She's Stronger Than Shin Hati, So Doesn't Need Her Lightsabers
Ahsoka Doesn't Want To Hurt Shin Hati, She Wants To Help Her
Ahsoka's refusal to match Shin's lightsaber with her own is rooted in her belief that it is unnecessary. In previous encounters, Ahsoka has successfully defeated opponents wielding lightsabers while being unarmed, such as when she vanquished the Inquisitor in Tales of the Jedi. Shin, on the other hand, lacks the experience and expertise required to engage in combat with a seasoned veteran of the Clone Wars and the Rebellion. Simple defensive maneuvers and Force techniques, like blocking and pushing, are sufficient for Ahsoka to keep Shin at a safe distance. Similar to Ezra, Ahsoka fully comprehends that the Force is her invaluable ally and possesses the power to overcome Shin.
Rather than seeking to defeat Shin, Ahsoka's intention is to offer her assistance after their brief clash. Ahsoka's first request is for Shin to surrender her lightsaber, but her sincerity in wanting to guide Shin, similar to how she advises Sabine, is evident. Just moments before, Baylan Skoll abruptly abandoned Shin to pursue his own agenda on Peridea. While his decision was partly motivated by kindness, as Shin evidently desires to fulfill Thrawn’s plan and take her place in his new Empire, Shin is likely feeling abandoned by her Master.
Despite Ahsoka's sincere offer to assist Shin, Shin opts to escape. She was unable to harm an unarmed adversary and realizes that she faces certain death if she continues the fight. However, it will be intriguing to discover where she seeks refuge in the finale. Baylan, in his search for "the beginning" of the cycle he wishes to terminate, has vanished from everyone's radar, and Shin unknowingly ruined Thrawn's plan to eliminate Ezra and Sabine. With no one left to turn to, Shin is likely to find redemption before Ahsoka concludes.
Ahsoka airs new episodes on Disney+ every Tuesday at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.
