Ahsoka's Second Padawan Struggles Expose Jedi Teachings: A Deeper Look into Star Wars

Ahsoka Tano's journey as a Jedi Master took a turn when she failed two potential Padawans. Despite leaving the Jedi Order, she has been determined to discover her purpose in the galaxy. Joining the Rebellion as Fulcrum, Ahsoka used her Jedi abilities and hard-earned information to assist the Ghost crew and other rebel cells in Star Wars Rebels. However, her encounter with Darth Vader in season 2 left her more cautious and reserved after learning the tragic fate of her former master, Anakin Skywalker.

Nevertheless, Ahsoka remained committed to making a positive impact in the galaxy. In her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2, she continued her quest from Rebels, searching for the dangerous Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka's involvement in the upcoming battle against Thrawn, a significant threat to the Star Wars universe, could potentially help tip the scales. However, there was another path Ahsoka could have taken that could have potentially changed the fate of the entire galaxy: becoming a fully-fledged Jedi Master.

Ahsoka Failed Both Grogu & Sabine

In season 2 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin and Grogu encounter Ahsoka on the planet Corvus. Din, assigned with the task of bringing Grogu back to the Jedi, hopes that Ahsoka will mentor Grogu and teach him the ways of the Force. However, Ahsoka explains that she cannot assist the youngling due to his strong attachment to Din Djarin, fearing that it could lead to darkness and suffering. Eventually, Luke Skywalker becomes the one to train Grogu, but Ahsoka's concerns about his bond with Din are mentioned. Had Ahsoka not intervened, what might have unfolded?

Furthermore, the second Ahsoka trailer reveals that she had also begun training the Mandalorian Sabine Wren at some point. The trailer hints at the possibility of Sabine possessing Force abilities, although it is also plausible that Ahsoka simply instructed her in lightsaber combat and educated her about the Jedi's beliefs and responsibilities. However, the trailer also discloses that Ahsoka abandoned Sabine, similar to how she "left Anakin." This suggests that Ahsoka once again failed to fully commit to guiding someone in need, possibly due to a specific reason.

Ahsoka Is Overcompensating Out Of Fear Of Attachments

Ahsoka and Anakin shared an exceptionally close bond as Master and Padawan. They held deep respect for one another, fostering a genuine friendship. Anakin's unwavering loyalty to Ahsoka was evident when he defended her against the Jedi Council's accusations of treason. However, when Ahsoka discovered Anakin's descent into the dark side and revealed his true identity as Vader, she lost faith in herself. Ahsoka harshly judged herself for leaving Anakin's side and not being there for him when he needed her the most. Aware of his strong attachment to Padmé Amidala, she believed it to be the cause of his deviation from the right path.

When Grogu, deeply attached to his temporary guardian Din Djarin, sought her guidance, and while Sabine, still grieving the loss of her Jedi companions Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger, trained with her, Ahsoka overcompensated. Instead of educating these potential Padawans about the perils of attachment and how to maintain their individuality while embracing love, she chose not to teach them about the Force or the ways of the Jedi at all. It is regrettable because Ahsoka possesses kindness, patience, and understanding, qualities that make her an excellent teacher. Unfortunately, she allows her fears to govern her actions, a flaw that may haunt her in the upcoming Ahsoka series.
