In episode 13 of Rurouni Kenshin, Han'nya and Takeda both make their moves. Han'nya rushes towards Takeda while Kenshin reaches for his sword. This triggers a flashback to Han'nya's training with Aoshi, shortly after he joined the Oniwabanshu. Aoshi advises Han'nya to control his smiling during training, oblivious to the fact that Han'nya is unaware of his constant smiling.
Back in the present, Takeda manages to shoot and kill Han'nya, just like the rest of his fellow Oniwabanshu members. However, Han'nya's sacrifice buys enough time for Kenshin to retrieve his sword. Meanwhile, Takeda celebrates obtaining the Gatling gun and the profits he anticipates from it. But when he tries to shoot Kenshin, it becomes evident that he has run out of bullets, rendering him defenseless against the rurouni. Kenshin swiftly knocks him unconscious.

Yahiko then informs the group that the police have arrived, indicating the urgent need for Team Kenshin to depart. Megumi, in turn, hands Kenshin a healing balm to tend to his wounds, providing him with instructions to leave safely and expressing her gratitude for his assistance.
