The Enigmatic Colossals: Unveiling the Immortals of Aveum

Discover the awe-inspiring Colossals in Immortals of Aveum, captivating players with their grandeur and unraveling the enigmatic history of Aveum

Highlights

Immortals of Aveum's hulking Colossals are visually impressive and controlled by powerful magic users, serving as valuable weapons in the game's Everwar.

The Colossals, created by the ancient Arjimahn civilization, possess a striking mechanical quality that sets them apart from the other mystical artifacts found in Aveum's fantasy realm. Currently under the control of the sea-peoples of K'ley, these enormous structures not only serve as a mode of transportation but also present a formidable danger to potential assailants.

Towering above battlefields and players, the hulking Colossals of Immortals of Aveum are undoubtedly one of the game's most visually stunning features. Controlled by Aveum's powerful magic users, these free-moving monoliths possess impressive offensive abilities, making them a valuable weapon in the Everwar. However, despite being powered by the same magical forces that flow through Aveum, the mechanical nature of the Colossals distinguishes them from the game's other mystical artifacts.

Players were first introduced to the Colossals in Immortals of Aveum through a trailer released by Ascendant Studios as part of the game's pre-launch campaign. This trailer showcased protagonist Jak engaging in battle with enemy forces while standing on one of these gigantic mechanical creatures during the Summer Games Fest in 2023. Although this trailer effectively displayed the immense size and scale of the Colossals, it is through the progression of Immortals of Aveum's storyline that players uncover the deeper significance of these walking weapons, offering valuable insights into Aveum's history.

Ascendant Studios has crafted an elaborate lore for the Colossals in their magic-based FPS. These colossal machines leave a lasting impression on players due to their immense size. Initially appearing as lifeless giants in Yltheum, the third chapter of Immortals of Aveum, the Colossals stand tall even when slumped over. With their humanoid shape and swords the size of buildings, these mechanical wonders resemble something out of Robotech rather than a traditional fantasy game.

While Yltheum offers a visually stunning introduction to these magical artifacts, it is only in the latter half of Immortals of Aveum that players truly grasp the scale of these war machines. In the aptly named mission "Colossal," players are assigned the task of boarding one of these monumental machines to track down Sandrakk, the antagonist of Immortals of Aveum. As players explore the cavernous interior, engaging in intense battles both inside and outside the Colossal, they will uncover more information about the creators of these colossal machines and the reasons behind their distinctive appearance in Aveum's magical world.

Colossals Are a Lingering Remnant of Aveum’s Colorful and Chaotic Past

The Colossals, described as walking construct-vessels of metal, glass, and stone in an in-game lore entry, were crafted by the powerful Arjimahn civilization of Aveum. While the Arjimahn used magic like the rest of Aveum's inhabitants, they were also responsible for creating advanced ancient technologies that players will come across in the game. As the knowledge of their creations was lost over time, the mechanical nature of the Colossals and other Arjimahn relics set them apart from the typical fantasy elements found in Aveum.

Previously feared throughout Aveum, the defeat of the Arjimahn by the kingdom of Aristeya resulted in most of the machines and their creators being destroyed. The remaining operational Colossals are now under the control of the sea-peoples of K'ley in Immortals of Aveum. These ancient machines enable them to travel across treacherous deep oceans that are impassable for regular sailing ships. While they primarily serve as transportation, the Colossals still pose a threat to anyone who tries to attack them.

Colossals, despite being present for only a brief period within the 15-25 hours needed to complete Immortals of Aveum, undoubtedly make a lasting impact on players. These majestic beings, with their awe-inspiring appearance and ancient heritage, emerge as one of the most captivating aspects of the game's fantastical realm. Immortals of Aveum can now be enjoyed on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
