Matt, renowned as a superhero lawyer, has gained recognition for providing pro bono counsel to Peter Parker and collaborating with Jennifer Walters. Given his unique legal approach, he proves to be an ideal ally for Ayala. The leaker further explains that Ayala would have been on trial for his intervention in a mugging incident involving two corrupt police officers, resulting in one of them being killed. This plot bears resemblance to Daredevil Vol. 2 #38-40, where Murdock strives to exonerate Ayala from a similar accusation. Unfortunately, this storyline doesn't yield positive outcomes for either character in the comics. The rumor emerged on October 13th, 2023, shortly after Disney's announcement of the series' reimagining. While it is uncertain whether White Tiger will continue to play a significant role in the series, Hector Ayala's involvement may have been discarded by the writing and directing team.

Who is White Tiger in Marvel Comics?

In 1975, Bill Mantlo and George Pérez created the White Tiger, who made his first appearance as the secondary protagonist in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, a renowned black-and-white comic series from the 70s that later featured Shang Chi and Iron Fist. Mantlo and Pérez aimed to capture the gritty urban life of 1970s New York through the character of Hector Ayala. Ayala was a trailblazer as the first Latin American character to lead his own comic book. Following his debut, he transitioned into a supporting role in Spider-Man comics. His costume, often described as a simplified version of Peter Parker's attire, lacked intricate details. One of his final portrayals took place in Daredevil. After his two Daredevil storylines, Ayala disappeared from the comic scene for more than a decade. Recently, Marvel paid tribute to this pioneering Latino hero by dedicating a few one-shot issues to him, showcasing his significance in the franchise.

Hector Ayala, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, ventured to the United States to pursue his studies at Empire State University. Prior to this period, his early life remains shrouded in mystery. By a stroke of luck, Hector stumbled upon a discarded set of magical amulets belonging to the disbanded martial artist group, the Sons of the Tiger. Impulsively, he donned all three, undergoing a remarkable transformation into the formidable White Tiger. Engaging in battles against the Prowler and the notorious crime organization known as the Corporation, he found himself collaborating with notable figures such as Spider-Man and Daredevil. However, a traumatic encounter with Gideon Mace, a military-affiliated gangster, left Hector gravely wounded. Miraculously, surgeons managed to save his life, but he promptly relinquished the amulets to avoid succumbing to their addictive influence. Sometime later, Hector resumed his mantle as the White Tiger, though he was tragically entangled in the infamous murder scandal surrounding the "Trial of the Century" event involving Daredevil. He was ultimately convicted and fatally shot while attempting to escape. Posthumously, newly uncovered evidence ultimately proved his innocence.

How many versions of White Tiger are there?

Marvel has a total of five versions of White Tiger. The first one was Hector, and most of those who wear the amulets share his bloodline. The second version is a natural white Bengal tigress that was forcibly transformed into a human woman by the High Evolutionary. White Tiger has always had a strong connection with Black Panther. They are both groundbreaking examples of racial representation and possess similar powers, along with nearly identical costumes. Kaspar Cole, the third White Tiger, becomes Black Panther's adversary after making a deal with Killmonger. He dons a vibranium suit and eventually abandons the White Tiger persona to join forces with T'Challa. Hector's niece, Angela del Toro, and his youngest sister, Ava Ayala, are the last two individuals to become White Tigers. Ava, in particular, is the most prominent version of the character, appearing in Marvel Snap games and various recent comic releases.
