In the comic book realm, The Hood is a relatively new character, yet he quickly rose in prominence as a villain under the guidance of renowned comic book writers. He even has his own Marvel Snap card. The inclusion of The Hood in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have significant implications for both the character and the supernatural community at large.
Who is The Hood in Marvel Comics?
In 2002, writer Brian K. Vaughan introduced The Hood character, but it was Brian Michael Bendis who truly elevated the character to Avenger-level threat status. Parker Robbins, originally a small-time criminal, became known as The Hood, a notorious villain within the Marvel Universe. Parker's upbringing seemed to push him towards a life of crime, especially after his father's connection with the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk. When his father passed away, Parker took on the responsibility of caring for his mentally ill mother, leaving him with limited options.
During one of his thefts at a warehouse, Parker unexpectedly found himself caught in the middle of a demonic summoning ritual and face-to-face with a Nistani demon. Driven by fear and instinct, Parker shot and killed the demon, impulsively taking its boots and cloak. Soon, Parker realized that these items held more than meets the eye and were certainly not from Forever 21. As he fled from a hostile gang, he discovered that the cloak allowed him to run in mid-air, and later on, he discovered that holding his breath while wearing it rendered him invisible.
Who is Playing The Hood in Ironheart?
With this considerable increase in power, Parker immerses himself further into the underground world of crime within the Marvel Universe. Gradually, Parker establishes his very own criminal organization and assumes the role of the new Kingpin in New York City. The addition of The Hood to the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands the roster of magic users in the fictional universe. Although he only possesses limited knowledge of the mystical arts, The Hood joins the ranks of other prominent sorcerers such as Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and Wong. Marvel officially announced at the D23 Expo in 2022 that actor Anthony Ramos will be portraying the character of Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood. It's worth noting that this is not Ramos' first foray into blockbuster films, as he has previously starred in successful movies like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, In the Heights, and Hamilton.
The role of Ramos' The Hood in Ironheart is still uncertain, other than being a villainous character. There was minimal to no interaction between Riri and Parker in the comics. However, Parker had numerous encounters with Iron Man. It is likely that the series writers will incorporate some of the Iron Man interactions into Ironheart, but there is also the possibility of introducing new and original interactions between the two characters.
Regardless of the reasons for The Hood's presence in the series, Anthony Ramos is poised to captivate audiences with his portrayal of the character. Parker Robbins is a somewhat tragic figure, and Ramos possesses the talent to breathe life into him. His ability to portray a wide range of emotions is exceptional, as evident from his previous work.
The Hood's Connection to Mephisto
It appears that fans have eagerly welcomed the presence of Marvel's Devil in the MCU, thanks to Sascha Baron Cohen's involvement in the series. The confirmation of the comedy actor bringing Mephisto to life has sparked excitement among comic book and MCU enthusiasts online. However, it is interesting to note the inclusion of numerous supernatural beings in a series that revolves around a brilliant individual equipped with advanced armor. Regardless, many speculate that Mephisto is somehow connected to The Hood. However, this is not entirely accurate.
Although both The Hood and Mephisto are supernatural characters, their interactions with each other are minimal. In the comics, The Hood has a closer association with Dormammu. At one point, Dormammu empowers The Hood with enhanced abilities and assigns him the task of killing Doctor Strange. Naturally, Doctor Strange emerges victorious over his would-be assassin, leading to Dormammu stripping The Hood of the powers he granted. However, there have been no rumors suggesting Dormammu's appearance in Ironheart.
Mephisto will probably manipulate Parker behind the scenes to secure the cloak and boots. What is his motive? It is possible that Riri is working on a technology that Mephisto aims to destroy, or it could be that his involvement with Riri is entirely unrelated.
