Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones has enjoyed a prosperous career, and an equally prosperous and enduring marriage with his wife, Erica Schmidt.
The couple crossed paths almost twenty years ago at a friend's home in New York City.
"It happened approximately 18 years ago. We were all gathered at a friend's residence when someone excitedly mentioned, 'They're leading the elephants through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel,'" reminisced Dinklage in a recent 2021 interview with The New York Times. "The circus had arrived in town, and amidst the snowfall, they were parading the elephants through the bustling streets of Manhattan, forming an enchanting line. It felt like a scene straight out of a mesmerizing, otherworldly, apocalyptic, yet whimsically romantic film. ... And that was the evening when our paths crossed, the night when elephants marched through the heart of Manhattan."
The couple officially exchanged vows in 2005 and experienced the joy of parenthood with the birth of their first child in 2011, followed by the arrival of their second child in 2017.
Since then, the power couple has maintained a strong relationship and collaborated on various projects. One notable undertaking was their joint involvement in the musical Cyrano, which was subsequently adapted into a film in 2022. While Schmidt penned the music and lyrics for the production, Dinklage eagerly accepted the titular role, confessing that he had even implored his wife for the opportunity.
"Yeah, I begged," Dinklage revealed during a CBS News interview in 2021. "I mean, essentially, yes, that's true. As an actor, you always yearn to venture into something that, at least for me, brings a sense of fear... I hadn't sung since my childhood."

Their First Meeting
Dinklage and Schmidt first met at a mutual friends’ house in New York City in the early 2000s, which Dinklage described to be something out of a “crazy, romantic movie.”

Their Elopement
The couple opted for a non-traditional wedding by choosing to elope in Las Vegas in 2005.
"We spontaneously made the decision during a charity event in Vegas," Dinklage revealed in a 2016 interview with The New York Times. "It was a somewhat solitary experience. We have a VHS tape of the wedding tucked away, never to be seen, hidden deep beneath the earth's surface."
Welcoming Their Children
Schmidt welcomed her and Dinklage’s first child together, a baby girl, in 2011, however, they have yet to reveal her name or exact date of birth.
Dinklage revealed at the 2012 Golden Globes that becoming a father was an incredible and life-changing experience. In 2017, it was confirmed that the couple had joyfully welcomed their second child.
Dinklage On Schmidt’s Talents
In 2015, Dinklage praised his wife's brilliance and her love for theater. He noted that unlike many others in their profession, who prioritize film as the ultimate goal, theater holds a sacred place in her heart as art, not mere entertainment. He found her immensely inspiring, considering her as the true artist in the family, while he humbly described himself as a television actor who simply pays the bills.
