The Eminence in Shadow season 2: How did Cid get teleported back to Earth?
The origin of the portal, which was 10 times smaller than Black Rose and suddenly appeared in the middle of nowhere, was left unexplained in both the light novel and the anime. However, The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 episode 12 revealed that it was Mordred’s death that triggered its unexpected appearance.
The enigmatic anomaly piqued Cid's curiosity, and he found himself back in his previous world many years after the death of his past self, Minoru Kagenou. Despite this, on Earth, only three years had passed since Minoru's death, highlighting the strange nature of his journey.
While the story did not reveal Cid's reaction upon his return to the previous world, his immediate response to fighting Akane Nishino's kidnappers hinted at his surprise at the unexpected turn of events.
After consuming Archfiend Ragnarok’s flesh, Mordred obtained incredible powers, and even in death, his body retained a fragment of Black Rose, primarily in his head. In the original light novel series, Beta plans to utilize Mordred's severed head to activate the portal on Earth and travel back to her own world with Cid. At present, the portal only links Earth and the Other World.

The dramatic conclusion to the sequel finally addressed the long-standing mystery of how Cid was transported to the Other World. Mordred explained that while their world previously lacked magic, a collision with an unknown Realm resulted in a surge of magic that devastated their world and led to the extinction of the Dinosauria clade 10 million years ago. It can be assumed that a similar event occurred in the Other World, this time involving Earth.
The Eminence in Shadow Season 2: Does Akane uncover Cid’s true identity as Minoru?
This is believed to be the very reason why Cid was instantly reincarnated in the Other World moments after his death. However, this event also led to the release of magical carnivorous beasts on Earth, resulting in the destruction of 1/100th of the human population. In order to survive, humans established a well-fortified city called Messiah, with Akane Nishino as their leader.
In the closing scenes of The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 episode 12, Cid once again made a grand entrance to confront the kidnappers. Akane's reaction hinted at a sense of recognition, although in the light novel, it's revealed that she actually knows very little about Cid. Nonetheless, her feelings towards him are deeply influenced by the traumatic loss of Minoru.
Stay tuned for further developments as Akane delves deeper into Cid's world, and as Cid catches up on the events that occurred after his passing in The Eminence in Shadow anime and light novel series.
