Frieren anime episode 16 highlights: The Elven Mage arrives at a village to meet her friend
The 16th episode of the anime Frieren started with the Elven Mage and her party arriving at a village near the Klar region to meet her friend, Voll, a Dwarf who had been protecting the village for nearly 400 years. Despite pretending to be senile at first, Voll recognized Frieren and warmly welcomed her party, allowing the white-haired mage to have a pleasant conversation with him before his eventual passing.
When Stark insulted Voll by calling him "old" and questioning his abilities as a warrior, Voll proved his strength by effortlessly besting the young warrior. Witnessing this, Frieren suggested that Stark seek out the experienced veteran dwarf for training during their time there.

In Frieren anime episode 16, Fern, Stark, and Sein assisted the villagers simply because they had spare time. A villager observed Voll and Frieren chatting and remarked that he didn't realize the elderly dwarf had any companions. The villager explained that it was almost impossible for them to communicate with Voll, but he had always been their Guardian Deity, defending their village from unknown threats. This realization made Fern understand that the experienced dwarf had been lonely all along.

After that, episode 16 of the Frieren anime skipped to the night before the Mage and her party's departure from the village. The Elven mage reflected on her past with Voll, recalling moments only he could remember.
It was uncovered that Voll had been safeguarding his village in fulfillment of a vow to his deceased human wife. Himmel, the hero, was acquainted with Voll and considered the promise to be "absurd." Nevertheless, he also held the belief that his wife would have been pleased to know that he was honoring the promise.

After her conversation with Voll, Frieren felt more determined than ever to understand humans. Despite the Dwarf's fading memories of his wife, he remained committed to keeping his promise. The following day, the group said their farewells, and Voll shared with Frieren that he had dreamt of his wife the night before.
Sein begins his search for his best friend and finds conclusive evidence of his actual location
After a touching reunion with Voll, Frieren and her companions pressed on with their travels and eventually reached Rohr Road. Sein, whose reasons for traveling differed slightly from those of the Elven Mage, inquired with the locals about the whereabouts of his dear friend.
When questioned about his friend, Sein displayed a locket to Fern and the others, showing a picture of his friend inside. He shared that his best friend was called the Gorilla Warrior, a name he had selected simply because it sounded appealing.

Based on the information he had gathered, Sein was certain that his friend was located somewhere in the North. As they continued their journey in Frieren anime episode 16, Sein spotted a settlement and requested the Mage to make a stop there.
After that, he inquired with the locals and discovered the whereabouts of an elderly woman who was acquainted with the Gorilla Warrior. However, she proved to be quite adamant and refused to divulge any information until her demands were met.
In Episode 16 of the anime "Frieren," the group is shown running errands for a lady and visiting an old statue that triggers memories of Sein's past with his best friend. Viewers find out how Sein acquired the nickname "Goatee Priest" and his friend was called the "Gorilla Warrior." Sein learns that his friend went to Tur, a distant trading city in the Northern Island, far from Auberst where Frieren and the others are headed. The episode concludes with Sein facing a difficult decision.
