Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons have a unique approach to their success when working together - they start by keeping their distance.
During an interview with Marie Claire on Tuesday, March 5, Dunst, 41, shared that they fell in love creatively first because they met on a set. They have a special way of working together that does not involve their real-life relationship. They also mentioned that they don't talk to each other on set, giving each other space to focus on their work.
Dunst and Plemons, 35, first met in 2015 while working on the second season of Fargo. They recently reunited for the Netflix drama, The Power of the Dog, and will collaborate again in their upcoming film Civil War, set to be released on April 12.
Despite their successful on-screen partnership, Dunst made it clear that their need for space while working together does not reflect their personal relationship.
“I love working with him,” she said, adding that “what’s nice is that we trust each other so much.”

She shared that he sent her a scene from his miniseries for her feedback last night. When she has trouble making a decision, she relies on his opinion. She trusts him the most and knows that he truly cares about her.
Dunst and Plemons started dating in 2016 and got engaged less than a year later. Their first son, Ellis, was born in 2018, followed by son James in 2021. The couple officially tied the knot in 2022.
In their movie roles, both Dunst and Plemons received Oscar nominations for playing a married couple in The Power of the Dog. However, their characters in Civil War will have a different dynamic. The film is set in the future and follows a group of journalists traveling across the United States during the second Civil War between the American government and the separatist “Western Forces” led by Texas and California. Dunst stars as reporter Lee, while Plemons plays a small role as an unnamed soldier, stepping in after the original actor left the project.
Dunst jokingly mentioned that our director Alex Garland is fortunate to be married to the best actor. Plemons, like Dunst, has also expressed admiration for his wife's talents.
During her 2019 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, he expressed how lucky he felt to work with her as an actor and see her incredible talent.
In November 2021, Dunst reminisced about how she realized Plemons was the ideal man for her.
“I didn’t remember saying this, but one of my best friends told me that I said to her that ‘I will know this man for the rest of my life. I just know it,’” she told the Los Angeles Times.
