The-Dream, a rapper, songwriter, and producer known for collaborating with Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Rihanna, is facing serious allegations of rape and sex trafficking.
In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, June 4, The-Dream (real name Terius Gesteelde-Diamant) has been accused by a woman named Chanaaz Mangroe of subjecting her to an "abusive, violent, and manipulative relationship filled with physical assaults, violent sexual encounters, and horrific psychological manipulation."
The court filing claims that The-Dream promised to help Mangroe with her singing career after contacting her on Instagram in 2014. He even offered her a chance to open for Beyoncé on tour, but this opportunity never materialized.
According to Mangroe, The-Dream started to control her life by making her constantly report to him throughout the day and isolating her at a hotel.
She claims that The-Dream started to engage in "violent acts" against her in 2015. This included locking her in a dark room near a recording studio, forcefully having sex with her, and leaving her naked in the dark for long periods. He would then return to have sex with her again and demand that she profess her love for him.

The-Dream, as shown in the image above, has been accused of rape and abuse in a lawsuit. The allegations also include claims that The-Dream used Mangroe for sex trafficking. Mangroe stated that she was coerced into having sexual relations with multiple men in various states. In one disturbing instance, she was forced to engage in oral sex with The-Dream while another man observed.
Mangroe stated that speaking out about the trauma she survived was a challenging decision in her life. She mentioned that what Dream did to her hindered her from living the life she wanted as a singer and songwriter. Her silence has become too painful, leading her to realize the need to share her story for healing.
The-Dream has denied all the allegations.
The-Dream responded to allegations in a statement to The New York Times, calling them untrue and defamatory. He emphasized his opposition to all forms of harassment and his commitment to helping people achieve their career goals. As someone dedicated to making a positive impact in the music industry and beyond, he expressed deep offense and sadness over the accusations.
The-Dream has had a successful career in the music industry, particularly known for his work as a producer or songwriter on the last five Beyoncé albums. He has contributed to nine songs on this year's Cowboy Carter album.
His songwriting credits include popular hits such as Britney Spears’ “Me Against the Music,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body,” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby.”
Additionally, The-Dream has released seven studio albums, with his latest one being Sextape 4 in 2020. He has been nominated for a total of 21 Grammy Awards and has won eight of them.
