Ubisoft has confirmed that The Division 3 is currently in development, with the series' developers actively assembling a team for this project. In an official press release, Ubisoft revealed that Julian Gerighty, director of the game Star Wars Outlaws, has been appointed as the executive producer for The Division franchise, subtly implying the existence of The Division 3.
Julian Gerighty, as the executive producer, will be responsible for supervising all The Division games and products, including the development of Tom Clancy's The Division 3 by Massive Entertainment. According to the press release, Gerighty's role will involve steering the direction of The Division franchise in a cohesive manner across various games, such as The Division Resurgence (the mobile game) and The Division Heartland (the upcoming free-to-play addition to the series).
Gerighty, who is currently working on Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws, will stay on the project until its launch, according to Ubisoft. The release date for Star Wars Outlaws has yet to be announced, but it is planned to be released in 2024.
The press release states, "Julian is completely dedicated to achieving success for both the development team and fans of Star Wars Outlaws. He will continue to be involved in the project until its launch, ensuring that the game fulfills the intended creative vision and offers an exceptional experience for players."
Massive Entertainment is currently occupied with multiple projects. Alongside Star Wars Outlaws in the coming year, their other open-world game, Avatars: Frontiers of Pandora, based on a popular sci-fi franchise, is scheduled for release in December 2023.
Regarding The Division franchise, fans were presented with a more comprehensive preview of The Division Heartland earlier this year, where Ubisoft highlighted its distinct survival elements that differentiate it from other installments in the series. Although a closed beta for The Division Heartland took place during the summer, the game's release date is yet to be announced. On the other hand, The Division Resurgence is expected to launch this autumn as a mobile adaptation, aiming to remain faithful to the original game.
