Highlights
The lore and characters of Mortal Kombat 1 have been completely rebooted, introducing a new timeline and origin stories for the beloved classic characters. These changes bring about exciting opportunities for fresh alliances and a revitalized perspective on the franchise.
Havik, a brutal and unpredictable fighter known from the PS2-era installments, will make his appearance in Mortal Kombat 1's revamped timeline. His return presents an opportunity for him to play a pivotal role in disrupting Liu Kang's newly established universe.
Originating from Chaosrealm, Havik possesses the power to inflict both mental and physical damage on his adversaries. His unique ability to simultaneously corrupt multiple individuals, coupled with his relentless pursuit to sow chaos and disorder, sets the stage for an unparalleled level of mayhem within the game.
Mortal Kombat 1 has generated excitement by revealing its extensive roster of fighters through a series of trailers. At EVO 2023, the top Mortal Kombat 11 players said goodbye to the game as they eagerly awaited the release of Mortal Kombat 1. During this event, Netherealm Studios, the developer, unveiled a new set of fighters, including a highly-anticipated glimpse of Reptile in the new timeline. However, the trailer's biggest surprise was the announcement that Havik, a memorable fighter from the PS2-era entries of Mortal Kombat, would be featured in Mortal Kombat 1's new timeline. Known for his gruesome and chaotic fighting style, Havik's inclusion in Mortal Kombat 1 hints at a significant role in Liu Kang's new universe.
Mortal Kombat 1 will mark a reboot of the series' story and characters, following the events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. Early trailers have confirmed that Fire God Liu Kang has successfully crafted a new timeline where peace and prosperity prevail. However, this stability is threatened when an unknown evil, accompanied by the villainous Shang Tsung, attempts to disrupt the timeline and its residents. Netherealm Studios and creator Ed Boon promise that Mortal Kombat 1 will offer a unique twist on the concept of a timeline reboot, with classic characters having entirely new origins and forming fresh, unconventional alliances.
Mortal Kombat's Havik is Pure Chaos
Mortal Kombat 1's EVO 2023 trailer has confirmed that Havik will be returning in Liu Kang's new timeline. Initially introduced in 2004's Mortal Kombat: Deception, Havik showcased the series' most unconventional and destructive fighting style. As the only fighter from Chaosrealm, he holds the esteemed title of Cleric of Chaos. Straddling the line between good and evil, Havik has always been driven to sow discord and mayhem. In Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, Shang Tsung validates Havik's existence after temporarily banishing Geras to the Chaosrealm. Additionally, Havik plays a role in the Joker's ending, where the two instigate chaos and establish the League of Misunderstood Maniacs in Orderrealm.
The unique properties of the Chaosrealm enable Havik to ravage his opponents mentally, physically, and spiritually. Unlike others, Havik derives pleasure from pain and possesses the extraordinary capability to heal from virtually any injury effortlessly, even fatal ones. Using both Blood Magik and his natural talents, Havik ferociously overpowers adversaries, utilizing his regenerative abilities to unleash body parts as weapons. In previous versions, he could possess anyone, irrespective of their god-like stature, provided they were cut by his blades. Havik seems unrestricted in corrupting multiple individuals simultaneously, and his ability to do so while existing in a completely different realm ignites the prospect of unparalleled chaos.
Havik May Play an Enormous Role in Mortal Kombat 1
Havik, the only Kombatant from Chaosrealm, has the opportunity to play a significant role in disrupting Liu Kang's new timeline. The impact of Liu Kang's universe reboot on other realms has yet to be revealed in Mortal Kombat 1. While Earthrealm and Outworld have been engaged in the Mortal Kombat Tournament for a long time, other realms have been dragged into the conflict due to specific events or alliances with Outworld. Considering Chaosrealm's likely opposition to Liu Kang's new order, it is possible that a rebooted Chaosrealm will attempt to reintroduce chaos to the universe, with Havik leading the charge.
The specific events that initiate the narrative of Mortal Kombat 1 remain largely unknown. Early trailers indicate that Shang Tsung will have a role in the story, but the main villain of the game is still a mystery. Chaosrealm could be unveiled as the primary antagonist of Mortal Kombat 1, as no realm has as much at stake during a period of peace and prosperity. Fans won't have to wait much longer before this true villain is revealed, as Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release next month.
Mortal Kombat 1 releases on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
