The Biggest Mistake in Diablo 4's Class Selection

Diablo 4, like its predecessors, boasts an array of classes for players to choose from. The game offers five distinct options, each embodying a classic fantasy RPG archetype and bringing its own unique elements to the gameplay. Fans are sure to have heated discussions over which class reigns supreme. However, while the current selection is thrilling, an additional class would have breathed even more life into Diablo 4. Many argue that this sixth class should have been the Demon Hunter, which was a standout class in Diablo 3 and sorely missed in subsequent installments.

Diablo 3's Demon Hunter Should Make Its Way to Diablo 4

The Demon Hunter in Diablo 3 was a force to be reckoned with thanks to its emphasis on ranged combat and swift movement. Armed with a variety of lethal gadgets, it could take down foes with ease using dual crossbows, explosive devices, traps, and shadow magic. Its dynamic presence in the game made it a fan-favorite, injecting a thrilling new element into the franchise.

With the introduction of the Rogue in Diablo 4, players were reminded of the Demon Hunter's impressive skillset. The Rogue also relies on bows and traps to gain the upper hand, but its pace is slower compared to its predecessor. Additionally, it relies more on close combat with its dual daggers, only using ranged attacks for support. While the Rogue sometimes captures the essence of the Demon Hunter, its slower pace and limited ranged abilities highlight the absence of its predecessor.

The absence of a class in Diablo 4 that resembles the Demon Hunter from Diablo 3 is notable. While the current classes are not lacking in terms of gameplay, they don't quite capture the same essence as the Demon Hunter. This is a missed opportunity given that the Demon Hunter has only appeared in Diablo Immortal thus far. Incorporating the Demon Hunter into Diablo 4 would bring a new level of excitement to the game's combat loop. With its agility and nimbleness, the Demon Hunter would dash and roll around enemies, unleashing a barrage of arrows and shadowy magic to finish them off. Admittedly, adjustments would need to be made to fit in with Diablo 4's slower combat, but overall, the Demon Hunter would be a perfect addition to the game's class lineup.

Blizzard missed the opportunity to introduce Demon Hunters as a launch class in Diablo 4, but fans need not worry as the class could still make an appearance. Blizzard has two post-launch expansions planned, and if they follow the trend of previous Diablo expansions, new classes are likely to be featured. Alternatively, the class could be introduced during seasonal content or through a small DLC pack like Diablo 3's Rise of the Necromancer. Regardless of the method chosen, Blizzard must incorporate the Demon Hunter class into Diablo 4 as soon as possible. Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
