A Newcastle supporter is presently in a stable condition at a hospital after enduring a stabbing incident in Milan on Monday evening. Eddie McKay, a 58-year-old individual from Newcastle, accompanied his son and a friend when they were assaulted by a group of approximately seven or eight individuals, whom he alleges were donning balaclavas.
The individual who was stabbed around midnight last night is currently in a stable condition at the hospital.
According to a statement from Newcastle, they express deep concern regarding the serious assault of a supporter in Milan on Monday evening. They are actively working with local authorities to gather more information on the incident.
Our thoughts go out to the supporter and their family, and we wish them a complete and swift recovery. Mr. McKay sustained stab injuries to his back and arms when he tripped and fell while attempting to flee.
Police in Milan confirmed Mr McKay was treated for injuries by paramedics at the scene and is in a city hospital.
His family are flying to Milan later on Tuesday to be by his side.
According to Rachel McKay, the daughter of the victim, who spoke to We News, her father is currently stable but in a state of shock. Although he is disappointed about missing the match, his main concern is for the safety and well-being of all other Newcastle fans in the area.
Due to recently undergoing two knee replacements, he stumbled while being pursued, resulting in the attack.
Although my brother is physically unharmed, witnessing such an incident has left him in a state of shock. I will be flying out there later to provide support. We have been awake throughout the entire night.
Police say they don't know if the attack was for football reasons or other reasons.
Newcastle play their first Champions League match for 20 years on Tuesday night against AC Milan in the San Siro.
The club have 4,000 tickets for the fixture, but further ticketless fans have travelled to Milan ahead of the game.
