Taylor Swift pays tribute to late fan Ana Clara Benevides Machado with a heartfelt rendition of 'Bigger Than the Whole Sky' during her Brazil 'Eras Tour' show, leaving the audience deeply moved

Taylor Swift seemed to honor her late fan Ana Clara Benevides Machado during her second night in Brazil by selecting an emotionally charged song choice. As part of her Eras tour, the 33-year-old singer incorporates two surprise acoustic performances into each show. On Sunday, November 19, Swift made the moving decision to perform "Bigger Than the Whole Sky" from her upcoming 2022 album named Midnights.

The lyrics of the song say, "Farewell, farewell, farewell / You were larger than the entire sky / You meant more than just a brief moment. I will never encounter / What might have been, could have been / What should have been you / What might have been, could have been you."

Although she didn't mention Machado by name, Swift's fans swiftly speculated that she was discreetly paying tribute to the deceased fan who passed away forty-eight hours prior.

On Friday, Swift expressed her overwhelming grief as she attempted to discuss the devastating news: "Talking about it fills me with an immense sense of sorrow." She earnestly conveys her deep sorrow and extends her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Swift also expresses her disbelief at the tragic turn of events, as she never anticipated such a heartbreaking outcome when they planned this tour in Brazil. The local concert organizer, Time For Fun, confirmed on Saturday, November 18, that Machado, who was only 23 years old, had passed away prior to the scheduled Friday show.

“Ana Clara, who was feeling unwell last night, was immediately attended to by a team of firefighters and paramedics. She was then taken to the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos [on-site medic] for initial medical assistance,” the statement posted in Portuguese stated. “Considering the situation, the medical team decided to transfer her to Salgado Filho Hospital, where, despite receiving emergency care for almost an hour, she tragically passed away.”

Machado’s official cause of death has yet to be revealed.

In the wake of Machado’s passing, her father, Weiny Machado, shared a statement to local newspaper Folha de São Paulo on Saturday.

He expressed his profound sorrow over losing his beloved daughter, who was a joyful and bright young lady. She was on the brink of completing her Psychology degree in April, diligently saving money. Words fail him to describe the immense pain he feels. She left home with aspirations to pursue her dreams, only to tragically return lifeless.

Swift started her South American leg of the Eras Tour a few weeks ago but has been compelled to reschedule two shows. This unprecedented move for the singer is due to multiple hazardous conditions.

She initially rescheduled the show in Argentina on November 10 due to excessively disruptive weather conditions. A week later, Swift was compelled to delay her Rio de Janeiro performance due to the extreme temperatures.

In an Instagram Stories post, she stated, "The safety and welfare of my fans, fellow performers, and crew is and will always be my utmost priority."
