Overwatch 2's removal of a custom javelin from the Forest Spirit Orisa skin has left players feeling disappointed and regretful of their purchase.
In Overwatch 2, the majority of Orisa's skins only have the standard neon green javelin, which makes the rare skins with unique javelins more noticeable. This emphasizes the necessity for enhancements to the cosmetic system in Overwatch 2, as it lacks updates to the existing skins' javelins and includes paid skins with custom javelins.
Overwatch 2 recently removed the custom javelin from one of its Orisa skins which has led to a player feeling regretful about their purchase. This discovery not only disappoints the player but also highlights a broader issue with Orisa skins in Overwatch 2 and the cash shop in general.
Numerous skins in Overwatch 2 showcase weapons, projectiles, and other dynamic elements that change depending on the character's chosen skin. These variations can be observed in the gallery. In the case of Orisa, her Energy Javelin is one such item that is usually visible when it is thrown, during her ultimate ability, or in specific Overwatch 2 Highlight Intros and Victory Poses.
Unfortunately, the majority of Orisa's skins in Overwatch 2 feature the default neon green javelin. However, several months ago, the old Forest Spirit Orisa skin was updated to include a wooden spear. Despite lacking in texture, this unique javelin appealed to xRetz, a devoted Overwatch 2 fan and Orisa main, prompting them to purchase the skin. Regrettably, xRetz was disappointed when the javelin was later changed back to its default appearance, negating the original reason for their purchase.
Starting with the release of the Star Sheep Orisa skin in December 2022, there has been a shift towards creating custom appearances for her Energy Javelin. In Overwatch 2 Season 5, the Battle Pass introduced the GR-IFFON skin, which also featured a customized javelin. Additionally, the currently available Carved skin offers a unique javelin as well. Despite these exceptions, all other Orisa skins continue to utilize the default Energy Javelin. This becomes especially noticeable in skins such as the red Demonic Orisa or the purple Null Sector skin, where the green weapon appears incongruous.
Many players have expressed disappointment in the unfinished appearance of the Energy Javelin in the Forest Spirit skin. Fans have compared it to a Runescape item and are not surprised that it was removed. The lack of progress on fixing the javelin for months, and the absence of any recolored javelins for other skins, raises doubts about whether it will ever be changed for Forest Spirit Orisa or any of her other skins. The fact that newer cosmetics, primarily obtained through microtransactions, have custom javelins only exacerbates the issue. A Reddit post discussing this topic has received over 700 comments in less than a day, highlighting the strong opinions of Overwatch 2 fans. XRetz, who spent $15 on this cosmetic, feels that their purchase was a mistake, especially since a part of it was taken away without any warning. It is clear that there is room for improvement in Overwatch 2's cosmetic system and cash shop based on this incident.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
