Jennifer Lawrence reminisces about her unsuccessful attempt to secure a role in the Twilight franchise. Back in 2008, when the first Twilight movie was released, Lawrence had yet to attain her breakthrough as an actress. Prior to her big break in Winter's Bone, Lawrence had made appearances as a guest star on popular TV shows like Monk, Cold Case, and Medium.
During an episode of The Rewatchables podcast, Lawrence candidly discussed her disappointment in not landing a role in Twilight. The Academy Award-winning actress reflected on the challenges she faced as an ordinary actor in her early years and how this impacted her chances of auditioning for the vampire-themed book adaptation. Despite this setback, Lawrence harbors no resentment and has moved on from the experience. Here is what Lawrence shared during the podcast:
I auditioned for Twilight [and] they immediately rejected me. [Laughs] They didn't even give me a callback. However, my life would have been completely different. I ended up getting Hunger Games, I believe, about a year later. When you audition as an ordinary actor... they only give you five pages and say, 'Act like a monkey.' When it was released, I was like, 'Hot damn.'
Where Jennifer Lawrence's Career Is At Now
Lawrence's experience of her Twilight audition serves as a reminder of the various hurdles actors encounter in Hollywood. Similar to many other actors, Lawrence did not achieve instant or dramatic success when she first entered the movie industry. Instead, she faced several setbacks while trying to establish herself, including missing out on opportunities in both Twilight and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Despite these initial disappointments, Lawrence has now achieved great success in her career and is currently in a phase of resurgence.
Lawrence faced some challenges in the late 2010s, despite her successful career in 2010. She appeared in several blockbuster films during this time, such as X-Men: Apocalypse, Passengers, and Dark Phoenix. However, these movies did not perform well at the box office and received negative reviews from critics. Following the failure of Dark Phoenix in 2019, Lawrence took a brief break from the Hollywood industry. She made her return to acting in Netflix's 2021 film, Don't Look Up. Lawrence has since revealed that she was unhappy with the quality of the films she was involved in and felt that people were tired of seeing her on screen.
Despite these challenges, Lawrence's comeback has been promising. Don't Look Up became one of Netflix's most-watched films and received four Academy Award nominations. She then starred in the well-received Causeways and showcased her comedic skills in the recently released film, No Hard Feelings, which has received positive reviews. Despite taking breaks and facing rejection from the Twilight franchise, Lawrence has managed to maintain an impressive career and continues to thrive.
