Summary

Frasier Crane chooses not to go back to the Cheers bar in the Frasier reboot due to his perception of it as a period filled with failures and setbacks, rather than the finest phase of his life.

Although Frasier spent numerous evenings at Cheers, he never truly assimilated and frequently became the target of jokes, particularly from Diane.

In the Frasier reboot, instead of revisiting the Cheers bar, Frasier Crane finds himself back in Boston, his old stomping grounds during his days in Cheers. With the reboot taking place in Beantown, speculations arose about him returning to Sam Malone's bar.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Joe Cristalli explains that Frasier's absence from Cheers in the first season of the Frasier reboot on Paramount+ is due to his reluctance. Instead, a new hang-out place called Mahoney's is introduced as a tribute to actor John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane. Cristalli suggests that Frasier may not view his time at Cheers as the best period in his life due to relationship failures, professional setbacks, and excessive time spent at a bar.

Why Frasier Never Really Fit In At Cheers

Surprising Twist: Frasier Reboot Ditches Iconic Cheers Bar!

Frasier's introduction to NBC's Cheers came as a belated addition, tied to his relationship with Diane Chambers. After Shelley Long's departure from the show, Grammer remained and became a consistent cast member until the series concluded in 1993. He then took the lead in his own spin-off. Spending eight seasons in Cheers allowed Frasier to interact with individuals who were different from himself and Diane. Despite the numerous evenings spent at the bar, however, the truth remains that he never truly assimilated.

Frasier never quite fit in and was often the target of jokes at Cheers. He was always the odd one out, especially after Diane left. But when he returned to Seattle, he embraced his own preferences, choosing wine over beer and fancy restaurants over pubs. It seemed like he was trying to be more like the people at Cheers.

Now older and maybe wiser, Frasier surrounds himself with like-minded individuals who share his point of view. It's unclear what happened to the Cheers bar in the Frasier reboot. Maybe it closed down after all these years, or perhaps Sam sold it to new owners. Either way, Frasier may not find it as appealing to visit anymore.
