Susan Sullivan surprised her fans earlier this month when she had a secretive surgery, later disclosing that she is currently fighting cancer. On Monday, October 16, the 80-year-old actress shared, "Life presents unexpected twists, but we must remain prepared with humor and hope. Let's keep moving forward."
Castle alum, Martha Rodgers, shared a photo from the hospital, donning a yellow face mask and a hospital gown. Holding an IV drip pole and an oxygen cart, Sullivan stood strong. In a later update, she revealed that she was battling lung cancer.

Sullivan closed her message with a shout-out to her followers, expressing her gratitude and appreciation for their support. She received an overwhelming response from her fans, many of whom have been avidly following her career since her soap opera days. One fan commented, "Sending wishes for a speedy recovery. I will be watching Falcon Crest today in your honor. <3"
Sullivan first gained recognition in 1970 as Nancy Condon on A World Apart, establishing herself as a soap star. She then went on to star in Another World from 1971 to 1975. From 1981 to 1989, Sullivan portrayed the character Maggie on Falcon Crest.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sullivan captivated audiences with her portrayal of Kitty Montgomery on Dharma & Greg. More recently, she garnered attention for her role as Martha, Richard Castle's (Nathan Fillion) mother, on the long-running series Castle, which aired for eight seasons.
