Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 15 (also known as Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 39) is a mix of excitement and heartbreak. It marks the return of the series' most popular antagonist, while also showcasing the potential death or serious injuries of beloved characters. Compared to recent episodes, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 15 has a noticeably slower pace, which has proven to be advantageous for MAPPA. Following the criticism they received regarding episode 14, including both the adaptation and their treatment of animators, this episode helps MAPPA regain a strong position.
In the previous episode, Nanami, Maki, and Naobito Zen'in encountered Dagon, who shifted the battle to his Domain. Despite being outmatched, Megumi emerged with his own Domain, granting Maki the Playful Cloud and creating an opportunity for their retreat. However, as the four sorcerers attempted to flee, Toji Zen'in infiltrated Dagon's Domain through the opening created by Megumi.

The episode begins at Inokashira line, Avenue gate, Shibuya Station, between 10:20 p.m. and 10:51 p.m. Building on the events of episode 14, the narration explains how Nanami's coded message prompts Maki and Naobito to gather at Megumi's Domain for a planned escape.
However, Toji Fushiguro, who has been reincarnated, exploits the opening created by Megumi to infiltrate Dagon's Domain. The narration clarifies that Granny Ogami's séance technique typically ceases to function once the summoned spirit depletes the host's Cursed Energy reserve, unless she puts an end to it herself.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 15: The one who left it all behind
With the demise of Ogami, the summoning cannot be revoked, resulting in an impasse. However, as Toji's former body did not consume any Cursed Energy, the duration of his reincarnation remains uncertain, creating a loophole. Possessing fragments of his memories, the resurrected Toji Zen'in has transformed into a "puppet of massacre," baring his teeth at the most formidable adversary within his proximity.
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 15, Toji makes a bold move as he ventures into Dagon's Domain. He astounds Maki by swiftly snatching the Playful Cloud from her and leaving her in disbelief at her defeat in a test of power. Undeterred, Toji fearlessly confronts Dagon, effortlessly enduring his lethal attacks and continuously inflicting wounds upon the Curse.
Nanami observes Megumi's exhaustion during the intense Domain Battle, yet he is left with no alternative but to urge the boy to persevere, placing their trust in Toji. Naobito acknowledges the banished individual from his clan, but unlike in the manga, he refrains from disclosing the man's name to Maki and Megumi.
After a while, Toji reshapes the Playful Cloud by honing it against itself and proceeds to impale Dagon with it. Unable to comprehend his defeat at the hands of a human devoid of Cursed Energy, Dagon attempts to retaliate, but Naobito utilizes his Technique to thrust Dagon into Toji's path. Consequently, Toji ruthlessly and adeptly eliminates the Curse, shattering its Domain.
Nanami realizes that their survival would have been unlikely if it weren't for Megumi's timely intervention. Yet, they now find themselves faced with the dilemma of confronting an unidentified individual who may either be a friend or a foe. Choicelessly, Toji diverts his attention from the deceased Dagon and focuses on Megumi Fushiguro, the most formidable presence in their vicinity.

Toji swiftly pulls Megumi out the window and onto the pavement. Megumi realizes that Toji may be even faster than Sukuna. In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 15, it is revealed that Megumi Fushiguro has no recollection of his father's appearance and cannot recognize him even when in close proximity.
In the meantime, Jogo discovers the remains of Dagon and vows to seek revenge. Nanami, Naobito, and Maki recognize that Jogo is on a whole different level compared to Dagon. However, before they can react, Jogo sets Nanami ablaze. He quickly overpowers a shocked Maki and successfully incinerates Naobito, despite the latter's attempts to fight back.
However, during this time, Jogo senses a strong presence of Cursed Energy and mistakenly assumes that Sukuna has made his way to Shibuya. He quickly realizes that one of Sukuna's fingers has been unleashed in close proximity and hastily heads towards the location where Mimiko and Nanako have just fed Yuji with one of Sukuna's fingers. In an attempt to attack the girls, Jogo is thwarted as they manage to escape using Nanako's technique.
Jogo then recalls Kenjaku's advice to Yuji, stating that if he gradually consumes all 20 of Sukuna's fingers within a span of 20 days, taking in one finger per day, he could acclimate to the changes and prevent the King of Curses from dominating him. However, if Yuji were to devour all 10 fingers at once, Sukuna would likely seize control of his body. Jogo retrieves the 10 fingers that were stolen from Tokyo Jujutsu High and proceeds to feed them to Yuji.

Mimiko and Nanako emerge once again, prepared to engage in battle with Jogo, until they all suddenly feel Sukuna’s presence and become immobilized by it. They respectfully bow to Sukuna, who swiftly beheads Jogo for having a head that is excessively tall. Sukuna inquires about their desires, and they beseech him to eliminate Kenjaku and release Geto. In return, they offer to disclose the whereabouts of the final finger.
Geto had previously informed the girls about Gojo, and despite their deep resentment towards losing their guardian, they reluctantly acknowledged his demise caused by his once closest companion. Nevertheless, they refuse to let Kenjaku tarnish Geto's physical form and essence in this manner. Sukuna commands them to lift their heads, and ruthlessly dispatches them for audaciously attempting to strike a deal with him.
Turning to Jogo, he is surprised to find that he has no demands. However, Jogo does have a request - he wants Sukuna to make a Binding Vow with Yuji, allowing him to possess the boy's body and join forces with the Curses.
Unaware of the fact, Jogo believes that Sukuna was unable to make such a vow before. Little does he know, the King of Curses had already made the notorious "Enchain" pact with Yuji when the boy initially died.
Sukuna, amused but regretful, declines to make any vows of his own to Jogo. Nonetheless, he offers a deal: if Jogo can successfully land a hit on him, he will lend his assistance to the Curses in their mission. Accepting the offer, Jogo is swayed by Sukuna's promise to eradicate every human in Shibuya if he succeeds, sparing only one individual, possibly Megumi Fushiguro.

As a Gen Z netizen, I have mixed feelings about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 15. On the one hand, I am thrilled to see Sukuna finally emerge and take center stage in the Shibuya Arc. The animation quality is top-notch, and the fight scenes are incredibly well- choreographed. On the other hand, I am heartbroken by the potential death or serious injuries of beloved characters like Nanami and Maki.
Overall, I think this episode is a solid addition to the Jujutsu Kaisen series, and I am excited to see what happens next.
