Stunning Real-Life Interpretation of Celebi Takes Pokemon Fandom by Storm

Hailing from Generation 2 of Pokemon, Celebi has undergone a transformation from its original "onion fairy" design, as dubbed by fans, to adopting a more human-like appearance. The artist behind this recent artwork explained that it serves as the culmination of their Johto Region story arc.

This Fairy and Psychic-type Pokemon made its debut in Pokemon Gold and Silver as a Mythical Pokemon. It can be found dwelling within a sacred shrine nestled deep in the Ilex Forest. Players who complete the Virtual Console edition of Pokemon Crystal have the opportunity to capture the enigmatic "Time Travel Pokemon" for themselves. While Celebi can also be encountered in other games, it is only accessible during specific events, rendering it unattainable through legitimate means in earlier installments.

This humanoid depiction of Celebi, known as a fictional gijinka, is created by endifi on Reddit. endifi has also created human versions of other Johto Pokemon, including Larvitar's evolutionary line. True to the original material, the color scheme features shades of green with hints of blue and a fair complexion. The hair resembles an elf cap, complemented by pointed ears and larger wings, while the black circles around Celebi's eyes have been replaced with black eyelashes or eye shadow. The charming smile and demeanor remain faithful to the official artwork.

In addition, this Celebi is accompanied by a group of fairy friends dancing in the wind, showcasing a departure from the usual convention in Pokemon games, which typically feature only one Mythical Pokemon. Another fan creation, an animated illustration of a single Jirachi repeatedly launching through space, also exemplifies this idea. All the characters in the artwork are dressed similarly, with one wearing pink and red colors reminiscent of a Shiny Celebi. The character in the bottom left of the piece appears to be a leader, adorned with a petal crown and a flower scepter.

Endifi expressed gratitude in the comment section for the support received throughout the two-year process of creating the Johto gijinkas. Other artists have also shown affection towards various Johto Pokemon, such as an ancient Lanturn found in the depths of Hoenn. While the artwork received positive feedback and praise from users, one Redditor provided criticism regarding the creator's approach to humanizing non-human characters, known as anthropomorphization. Despite this, the portrayal of Celebi in this artwork is truly captivating.

Having completed Celebi's human-like form, endifi plans to continue the art series by focusing on the Hoenn Region. They informed fans that the frequency of posts may decrease temporarily to catch up with their past rate of producing fan art for each Pokemon. Since Hoenn holds a special place in endifi's heart, they hope that everyone shares the same excitement for what's to come. Another artist on Reddit shared their rendition of Hoenn's Mythical Pokemon, Deoxys, as an Electric and Psychic-type. Considering endifi's previous works, it is highly likely that their next creation will feature Treecko, the "Wood Gecko Pokemon," postponing the depiction of Deoxys until the end of the Hoenn Pokedex.
