Streamer xQc is investing a significant amount of money in his quest to uncover the coveted The One Ring card from Magic The Gathering. This particular card, valued at an astounding $2 million, has become increasingly valuable over time. As part of the recently launched The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth collaboration set by Wizards of the Coast, the chances of finding The One Ring card are incredibly slim. However, WOTC has created a unique variant of the Lord of the Rings card, featuring a special foil design that showcases the black Speech of Sauron using Tengwar letterforms. This exclusive foil card can only be obtained from the new booster packs.
Shortly after discovering the ultra-rare card, xQc made a decision to visit his local card shop and record a series of videos where he purchased Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Collector Booster packs. Initially, xQc bought a few booster boxes for $500 each. However, his friends surprised him by giving him a large cardboard box containing at least 13 more booster boxes, bringing the total cost to a staggering $9,000. Although his initial attempts were unsuccessful, it remains uncertain whether xQc will eventually acquire The One Ring.
Despite $9,000 being a significant amount to spend in search of a single card, it should not be a problem for xQc considering his recent lucrative deal. Earlier this month, the streaming industry was stunned by the news that xQc, a prominent Twitch star, had signed a contract with direct competitor Kick for an astonishing $70 million, with the potential for an additional $30 million based on performance. While this move has drawn criticism from fellow streamers, xQc's contract enables him to create content on other platforms, including Twitch.
Collectible cards remain a highly profitable industry, despite their higher price points. Recently, a remarkably uncommon Pokemon TCG Pichu card shattered the sales record, fetching a staggering $25,800. This particular card holds a perfect PSA 10 rating and was lovingly illustrated by a second-grader as part of a movie promotion in Japan. Depicting a spiky-eared Pichu surrounded by vibrant flowers, it serves as a testament to the immense value certain cards can hold. Although it falls short of the astounding $2 million valuation of Magic The Gathering's The One Ring card, it exemplifies the significant worth that collecting specific cards can achieve.
